Hi,

I'm relatively new to 3D studio max and 3d design in general, but lately have been encountering some strange errors... While exporting my models into .3DS files, the textures are automatically renamed to conform to "8.3 bitmap" format. The full error is:

"Non 8.3 bitmap filename [TEplastic01.tga] has been renamed to [TEplasti.tga]."

This happens no matter what format I try to save them in. Is there any way to turn this off so that it doesnt rename my textures? It would really be nice to be able to name my textures with more then 8 characters.

Thanks!

nevermind Ive located the problem.

Turns out I downlloaded an upldated version of the exporter for the format im making my models in. ANd ths updated version has a nasty habit of shorning file names. So now im going to go off and look for someone with a backed up older version.. lest i want to double my texture size for the project.
