At the start of the Summer I dreampt it would be nice to draw everyone I met that summer, as a kind of record. Inspired, in no small part, by Android's self portraits. And also for me to explore a new subject since last summer I spent doing landscape and sculpture.
Well what with one thing and another it didn't quite work out that way. Instead of the bohemian artist inviting visitors into his studio shmoozing and arting, I found myself voulenteering at a local youth center. The club is assosiated with a school for special needs childeren and many of the people there cope with real problems.
I've read a lot recently about the pain of artists (On the books thread here and elsewhere), how so many artists have battled against depression and mental illness. I do not seek to make light of such conditions as I have often been crippled by my own deamons. But I hear a whingeing note to so much of this abys gazeing.
And so: "Walk a mile in my shoes"
Presented here in chronological order as they appear in my sketchbook.
Roughly 30 mins each.
