[Another rather random, but rather specific, and thoroughly unpredictable topic.]

[Who knows.]

[What?]

[Me?]

[Nope. Not me.]

[Go draw.]

The guy that plays the big drum for the Susquashian College was always a show off, swirling his drumstick when he wasn't banging his drum.

hehe, misread stuff as staff... and sworling as swirling, nonetheless, 30? painter

hmmm turned out to be a simple composite that im not too fond of
i got a little carried away with painting her face and perhaps i should have
concentrated a bit more literally on the subject with the intent of
making her transparent
the swirly stuff is just a photo i took of a carnival ride
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/trevorclaxton/sketches/swirlyfacedsg.jpg

and here is just the portrait
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/trevorclaxton/sketches/swirlyfacedsg1.jpg

btw nice work damicide

I'm not really a fan of this one. I tried to shade it too late, once the linework was too firmly entrenched to change w/o scrapping the drawing entirely. It looks ok small. (Wasn't too big to begin with)

GreenTopaz-Thanks for contributing it is always good to see other talent
Phaethon-I'm liking the wires on the head hardcore
goran-Dont want to meet that old wench. Nice swirls
trevor-The swils suck but the painting is knarly
Antilight77 -It kinda looks like the swirls are on the outside a bit
damicide - are you human WTF that is awesome. I like the angle and depth.
SkyWookiee - it kinda reminds me of these nasty little veins that my aunt has on her legs. :dead: Good ta see ya post
atomicsushi - I like how the color works in yours and you got the transparent really well. Props
Hamsta - Yer a clever one :dur:
Zoeli - Theres a true beauty in yours. Swirls are sort of hard to make out though
machzero - I like how you have been coloring them recently. You always have a nice setting to go with yours also. I should work on that. It seems like your getting better. :S
Hunger_artist - nice helmet.
Faust-Theres smothing that is bugging me about that green background for some reason.

Sweet turn out!

random pickings:

mysterian: beautiful. i'm jealous at how you pulled off your blues.
hunger: your designs always blow me away. where are the sparklies!!?
goran: guess you forgot the 'kind' part too. you made the best execution of the lighting creeping under the skin, imo.
green topaz: unique take, I like the reverse effect you did on the skin.
atomic sushi: she's made of jello! realy cool.
falseprofit: I'd say the lighting ca be improved more if you put a darker bg behind her. ghost, why didn't I think of that. Cool idea.
trevor: maybe add more glow to the carnival pattern. beautiful face though.

edit: oops, forgot the 'kind' part of the topic, nyeehaha.

I don't know how this fits in the topic but it is what popped into my head. It took longer than I wanted (about 2 hours) and I used good ol' Painter 7.

Fal$eProfit - thanks for the comment. But the pic seems to have lost something when I looked at it this morning (get home from work, eat, check DSG, do it fast, lose conciousness, back to office). Original pic was much larger and showed more of the room. Had to zoom it in, and still a lot of detail was lost. Girl looks quite creepy now since I did a silhouette of the skull, and it vagule shows through.

Goodness gracious, I have to follow Mr. B. Hand's? That's hardly fair.

There is a lot of intimidatingly great stuff. Heri, Mysterian, and Atomicsushi are to name only a few that really stand out to me.

Here's mine. Maybe 45 minutes, mostly in Photoshop.

Heya, a bit late this time. Took me about 90mins, first 30mins just drawing, erasing and re-drawing the face. I'm pretty happy with it, I always have so much trouble drawing females, grrr.
http://home.austarnet.com.au/esjakku/swirling%20fem%20face.jpg

William B Hand: Nice work, she looks pretty freaky but not in a threathening way! Plus the swirls really have motion for me, I can imagine them fully swirling!!
Mysterian: Yours is great too, it looks very asian, I can imagine her under a paper umbrella without it having to be painted, especially with the shadows cast across her face.
Lukavi: Sweet cyber punk style pic, and I unconditionally love all cyberpunk stuff! :^^:
Nice work everyone!

Cheers

William: no matter, i ve understood what a "sworling stuff" is but too late :dead:

William b. Hand

Okay... technically, apparently there is no word "sworling". Well... not in the dictionaries i googled. However, it really is a word that recieves use and has specific and subtle distinction from "swirling" ...it just hasn't made it into the books yet, I guess.

Just replace "sworling" with "swirling"... it's close enough.

And I wrote "stuff" to be intentionally open-ended.

Fal$eProfit You seemed to have turned "kind" into "crossed eyed idiot" (no offence to any idiots out there :P )
IMHO the filter looks horrible, screaming digital manipulation.
The BG is very flat, and the swirling stuff looks very pasted on, without regard to the womens face.
Looks like you have a lot of homework to do.

Bill "Sworling" has been driving me nuts yesterday, until someone on the IRC reminded me of whorl.

William b. Hand
August 18th, 2005, 04:42 PM
Hamsta - Constructive crit is one thing... Flat out insult is another. There's next-to-nothing in your "crit" @ Fal$eProfit that could be of any help to any one. Even your reference to a filter is flawed. This looks like experimentation with brush or layer effects to me, which is fine to begin with, and especially appropriate for this tricky topic.

You should put more thought into thinking what comments might actually be helpful to a person, and less time trying to come up comments like this.
