I.C.E. Press and JGM Comics are giving you a chance to be patriotic and to get published at the same time. And we'll pay the publishing cost to do it. You don't have to support the war to support the troops so, here is your chance. The name of the comic is WhiteOut an anthology to be published in October, 2003.

The deal:

We are asking you to draw Cyberine in a patriotic or Captain America type scene for a cover. It image/cover must be of a positive nature towards the current situation in the gulf, going on at this moment. Also, the cover must be finished. This means Penciled, inked and colored. No logo's are needed we will supply them. Here are the guidelines that we are asking you to follow. First, The American flag must be visible and look noble. Any scene is fine. He can be fighting with our troops.

The booty:

You have a chance to win $75 for your effort, and the have your art be displayed as a variant cover for the title WhiteOut #1. Plus, 10% of the net sales from the book and any related merchandise. That means posters, t-shirts and anything we can plaster your image on.

There will be a spot on our message board for Submissions for this contest. You can go to www.icepress.com and on the message board link to take you to our message board area. This area is “ONLY” for finished covers, NOT WIP. Feel free to post your WIP's on your favorite forum. We will then hold a board meeting to pick the best cover of the lot. Everyone and anyone is eligible for this contest, in any artistic style. The cover will be picked by the senior partners of I.C.E. The established deadline for this contest for our troops will be May 1st, 2003. The contest winner will be notified within 24 hours. All submission need to be 10 x 15 high resolution and converted in tiff, jpeg or PNG format. We prefer that the image is in tiff format to save on the size of the image and the quality.

All cover that are entered will we posted to the I.C.E. Site and Forwarded to military public relation offices at certain Armed forces installations within the United States to be forwarded to the troops.

A Calendar will also be made for the top 13 covers….this includes the winner for the cover. So, this means there will be 12 runner ups that will get their work published. These 12 will not receive a cash prize, but, will have their work seen and published.

Good luck.

nice idea, im not a war nut myself but sometimes things need doing no matter what other people say, its like when your mother says "if they all jumped off the cliff would you". i think america is finishing a job and doing it as professional as possible and this is a credit to the men over there. i have relations fighting out there and all i can say is godspeed and a safe return.

Hey Joe, nice idea. Couple questions though, does the character use guns, and what pixel size are you wanting? Hope you get some good stuff!

Hey guys, Nice to see some interest in this. This is my screen name now so I'll answer all questions through this name. Troy (the other half of ICE) posted this for me.

The finished piece should be 6.75 x 10.5 and 450 dpi.

The character is a cybernetic marine (Cyberine for short) As a soldier he uses whatever you put in his hands. He also can shoot force bolts from his right hand. The left arm is human. He does other things but for all intenents and puproses he's my Captain America. I just didn't want him in a hokey outfit with stars and stripes so I gave him marine colors, Red and yellow.

He doesn't have to be fighting. He can be standing noble or whatever. I just want it to be positive. I have a Brother-in -law there and I'm going to ship him a load of copies. We are also going to try and get with Armed forces installations to see if they would be interested in distributing it.

Thanks for asking!!!

The Project ICE patriotic cover winner is Keola!!!!

Or as he probably likes to be called, Andrew Johnson. Here is his entry:

A few guys have asked about the vote, but the vote was just a public thing to see what the public wanted. Ultimatley we made the decision on artistic quality and sticking to the character and the rules.

Keola will have his cover on the flip side of issue 1 as ICE has decided not to do Variant covers. He will be sharing the honor with Amanda Conner and Pete Palmiotti. Some great people to be involved in.

Join me in congratulating Andrew at the following link.
