This is a coverillustration for a sequential I'm working on. Can't be more specific at the time of writing... Prying eyes and such... ;)

I think you could do more with the background.. it is a little boring at the moment.

i like the concept, theres just a few things that bug me about it:
The line of the boat as it travels past our top hatted friend in the back there is kinda weird - It dips down to suddenly i think, and doesnt really sit him very well in the boat - more ontop of it.
Also the lines of the boat on the right really help define the shape of it, on the left, where they are missing, loses the contour and makes it look a bit flat.
Theres actually something about the positioning of the robo dude that bugs me, im not sure what kind of legs he has but for him to be sat that deep in there, kinda makes me think he either has really short legs or that we should be seeing some knees poking up infront of him - especially with the character on the front being stood so high up
Lastly the water reflections seem a little inconsistent - the reflection to the boat is o-k, but it isnt in keeping with the water-shrubbery at the bottom of the pic, which almost cast no reflection at all, also i think where she has her stick should have a bit more distortion to really push the movement.
I really like the image as a whole, and I kinda like the background as it is.
Good work, look foward to seeing more stuff.

Thanks for the input! Some of these things have crossed my mind as well. But they never stuck. Now I think I will tweak and add a little along those lines...
I actually think the background should stay and be a little boring, since it's not the centre of attention...
I might post the updated version when the time has come...

I googled "rowboat" on their image service and this was on the first page. Cool, huh? While it's not exactly what you're doing, I thought it might help. You might also find some good references under "punting", which is obviously what the kid is doing.

The real key, of course, is going to be integrating the figures into the boat. Right now, the saturation is making them leap from the image, which creates more shock than tension. You should try to relate the saturation to the available lighting. It's common to introduce a light source with the sole purpose of smacking in some strong color (BAM!).
