Hey everyone,
*mods* Sorry for the double post but I wasn't sure where to put this one, we ARE willing to pay upfront but would prefer to bang out a royalty type payment instead, or a combination of smaller upfront fee due to the continued royalties.
My name is Luc Michaud and I play in a metalcore band based out of Vancouver BC called "7th sunn". We're in the middle of writing an album and are currently looking for an artist to do the illustration of the artwork for us.
The album is based on the imagery found in the book of Revelations(the Bible). We're not looking for images that would portray "Christianity" but images that would portray/emit a dark/ominous/forboding/eerie emotion and feel to them. The music that we are writing, we feel, portrays these moods and emotions and would like the images to remind people of the music when they see them. We're looking at having 10-12 images (one per song) and we have a few ideas as to imagery or scenes that we think would work well but are open to any ideas and interpretations of the text/moods/imagery that are in the book of Revelations, and if you haven't read it, not to worry there is plenty of dark imagery to choose from (end of the world Apocalypse/7 seals type stuff). We want to make sure you have lots of creative freedom and for the most part would only provide general guidance as to overall themes.
We're hoping at hitting the studio in late November - early December but most likely we will end up recording early in the new year and so have roughly 6 months, possibly more, to work on the project.
WE ARE WILLING TO PAY YOU FOR YOUR WORK! but would like to bang out some sort of royalty type payment to lessen the upfront flat fee or possibly have it straight dissapear all together. I'm not sure what you would normally
charge for a project of this size but we have a bit of a unique idea that could
result in a steady stream of income, for you, off of the project without you
having to do much if any additional work beyond the original pieces and could
actually result in you making more money in the long run than had we just paid you a set flat rate up front.
Our idea is to make larger prints of the images from the album and sell them to our fans at shows and through our website. You obviously would make a certain amount from every print sold (similar to a royalty I guess) and we would act as distributors of the pieces. We feel this idea is beneficial for both parties as it gives our fans another way to connect with the music and 7th sunn, gains exposure for you and your work in areas and with people you might not normally be exposed to and at the same time provides both parties with an on-going channel of income.
These ideas are all in their early stages and we are more than willing to work
with any ideas that you might have as well.
I've put links to our website and myspace pages below my name if you're
interested in checking out some of our older tracks you can listen to them at
either location.
Thanks for your time and we hope to talk to some of you soon,
Luc Michaud
