View Full Version : DSG 839: Sci-Fi: GREY VESSELS W/ BOLD ORANGE & WHITE MARKINGS ON LANDING-PAD IN RAIN

By "vessels", I mean Ships. Flying ships.
It's a crappy, rainy day, and the scene is mainly washed out colour-wise, with the striking exception of the insignia or other graphics (stripes, circles, etc.) on these ships.

Even in shitty weather, the aerial train can't stop, as now, more then ever, people will need the supplies stored in this low flying behemoth.
painter, 45ish I guess

AndrewLey - loving your picture man, but can't believe you didn't do the markings... come on!! ;) Nice work regardless.
Zoeli - welcome to the group! Great way to start out. Nice job. Cool perspective angle to tackle.

Pechu - I like the markings and general form. Don't care for the rear gear, though... and that puddle is way out-of-scale and makes the ship look the size of a sneaker.
Yaso Kuuhl - I dig your ship markings and rain.
goran - Cool platform and textures... I like the vapour, too. Seems toy-sized.
Sheldon - Fun pic. I like all the lighting effects..... there's a lot going on here...
AndrewLey - Too bad you bailed on the markings, but the pic is fantastic. Very satisfying ship shape, and I love how subtle the background is... gives a satisfying sense of atmosphere. I don't like the shape of that little tower at the end of the platform, though.
Zoeli - Welcome! What I like most about this one is the rain in the headlights. Very convincing.
vijil - Sure wish that was larger... I think we lose a lot by such a small pic. I dig what I can make out, though. Post that one larger, won't you please? ;)
SoundScientist - Thanks so much! (Oh, and great avatar... that's hilarious!)

I have a nasty habit of doing things small... it's more forgiving.
So no, there was no bigger one. Unless you want to zoom in.

Goran, Hamsta, AndrewLey, William, and Vijil, I particularly like yours because I think they all convey a nice sense of mass, like there's this actual thing sitting in front of you. And Zoeli and Vijil, I like the light effects in yours- the idea of light cutting through the rain.

Phaethon This is traditional isn't it? traditional always has that extra something, despite what software like painter tries to do.
The design of the ship looks kinda of pre-chewed, but thats difficult to overcome.
Not feeling those panel lines, is it just the thickness? don't know.
I'm sure you realize your perspective needs working on, but not a bad start.
You need better contrast between the sky, the ship and the end of the platform, to make it easier to read.
I can't tell what those orange things in the bg are, and I'd like to see you try to make rain without those big grey streaks

Thanks for the comments!
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by pre-chewed? If you mean unoriginal, then I readily admit that I had the Homeworld games in the front of my mind while doing this. As for the panel lines, they bother me too. I didn't do enough planning so they don't have highlights, just shadows, which makes them look less cohesive. I'll be sure to keep the rest in mind in the future, and thanks again for taking the time to comment!
