Got a hold onto Burne Hagarth's book on hands.. first pic is before, second is after! (and no, even if I sound like one I am not a sales man)
pretty happy with the result, any comments, tips techniques?

The knuckles are off on some of the pics.

The one on the top left on the first pic, and the middle one at the bottom of the second pic. Looks like you have moved the knuckles up on the fingers.

Other than that it looks pretty good IMO.

God knows I can't do it better cause, yes, hands are hard. ;)

thanks for the comments, I can see the knuckle thing you mention, and think that I exagerated with the shadowing on the back of the hand.

well here is another batch, and as I mentioned in my first post I have begun reading this book by Hogarth. It helps a lot, and I can see his influence in the way I build the hands now, but it is still hard!

Been doing almost only hands this past two days. I think I am getting a much better grasp at how it works, but there are still so errors, but hey, at least I am trying. :D

george bridgeman has a book called "the book of one hundred hands" their kinda skecthy but great for gesture of the hand ...but remember its great to read and copy but u also have one free hand when ur drawing ...keep it up and keep posting :D

I bought 10 (yes freaking 10) art/design books the past month! So my economy is tight, but I'll look for it next time .

Why do you think there are only male hands? :D I use my hand a lot as reference, but I really should start doing female hands and poses where the hand is holding onto an object.

Dude, definite improvement. I also recommend all of Bridgman's books, they are only $6 each and are the best drawing books I've ever seen.

A side note, but as you improve with these be wary of copying too much of Hogarth's style. His books are a treasure trove of information, but IMO he draws some of the fugliest humans I have ever seen.

Not happy with my last stuff. I have a clear feeling that I have improved a lot in my understanding of hands and how they work, but my latest stuff looks like a step back!
Have been way to busy with school and when I finally get down to draw, I just can't concentrate... it is very irritating! knowing that you can do better, and still...

Tetsuo/ thanks for the reply, I know what you mean with the hogarth style thing, and I do agree fully with you. I do get the impression that it is really easy to spot that I have used Hogarth's book on hands, but I figure it will slowly fade.

just getting better...what i did in high school was i bought a skecth book not too thick...but i would take it to class and draw my hands and other peoples heads and whjatever i saw interesting ...i filled5 books in bout two years and i only worked on them in class....maybe thats why i graduated with a 2.9:p but if u knowe u have a bullshit class, get one..i was working on one on a senior meeting day and my counslern saw it and took it away:ak47: but i went and picked it up and she gave me a mural job and i made bout 500 buckets :thumb: :nana ok then keep drawing...o one more thing go to www.doverpublications.com they have cheap gOOd books ...for figure old masters whatever u need and they're cheap!! good luck :rock:

This is probably Conceptarts biggest update ever...... :D
left out the really fast ones, or the plain crappy ones. Most of the stuf here is done rather quickly, nothing is more than 15/20minuntes.
All done in the past couple of weeks. School is killing me, and have zero time to dedicate to one big painting, but whenever I get the time I fire the sketch book up.

am not concentrating on anything in particular, just drawing to keep the hand in exercise, so forgive if there a lot of areas where there is little to see or get!

These hands are really good, I can tell tat you've learned a good deal about the structure. Lots of dynamic poses.

I see in a few poses, the proportions are off so that is one thing to keep in mind.

Your sketches are very inspiring and your hand sketches show your diligence! Great stuff! I'd like to see more shadow and light definition in your future sketches, seems you rely too much on the power of your line drawing!

Thank you very much for the feedback and comments! I didn't expect much interest in this one, nice to be proven wrong :D

Jester, I know perfectly what you mean and I am working on it, but it is very hard for me especially when sketching. I am one of those guys that does the line first, and then gives volume, but it is something I have to change if I want to improve.
