------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everybody!
This is my first post here (cool place by the way) so let me introduce myself :bashful: I´m 3d artist from Prague / Czech Rep. and I´m trying to be better artist in 2d (eek nasty word :dead: ).I would say I´m back on the right route some kind of back to the roots. I hope that you kick my butt (critique) so I can be better!! I´m a bit old for this kind of things (26) but I can´t sleep because of thinking about drawing/painting whole day! <3 So who cares :bashful:
So let´s get to the bussines now!
Here´s my last sketch in PS (thx goes to Zhu Zhu´s great water color tut!). Its a guick gesture drawing based on photo from net.

Good start to your thread, I like the monochrome sketches a lot, great shading on the nude not so keen on the coloured ballerina though she's a bit splodgy.
The cowboy's pretty cool, would probably look better if his right arm were extended more toward the body and the creases on the sleeve were more consistent with his left, the blood on the body also looks a little like cracks, sort of like he's been freeze dried and then had his head blown off.

August 18th, 2005, 03:29 AM
thx for your visit :teeth: you are historicaly first one and I appreciate it :yayca:
Yes, you are definitely right about his right arm with gun it doesn´t work well in perspective, same goes with sleeves and creases - I just couldn´t imagine how this should look in real :dad:
I think I jump too soon to painting over my cowboy sketch which I definitely should improve before...
I´ll try to fix these things next time, stay tuned :)

Your nudes look great......especailly the first one. She looks really curvy and solid.
Have to agree about the cowboy though. The arms and the lack of a neck don't do it any favours, but i know how easy it is to start painting as soon as you have sketched down something you like.
Keep em coming!

August 18th, 2005, 07:53 PM
the rendering on the cowboy's chaps, belt, and vest are pretty good. the sleeves (arms) really contrast with it though because they dont look finished. i know the arm with the gun is in perspective, but it isnt reading well. the other could be helped by darker shadows in the wrinkles. you completely lost the fabric with that odd bluish shadow though...if you had them on separate layers you should just switch the order. that would help greatly.
agreed about the absence of a neck; it really would help.
great line quality on those drawings though. very fluid. let's see some more :tihi:

The colours on the last one are excellent. You did it without any ref??? If so, i'm going to have to bow down before you and pay homage <3. The only thing i could say about her is that maybe she looks alittle narrow around the shoulders.
Also good eyes on your Milla Jovovich .

Now this one (http://www.cgart.org/Content/temp/stormyfield.jpg) is nice! Diggin' on your liquid inks, as always!
Small crit: Some of your more defined characters lack the fluidity of your gestures.. If you could push those dynamics into the rendered characters, it would be awesome!
Just my two cents..

Great work man.
I like the oil painting "stormyfield.jpg" alot. The colors are really nice.
Also I have a great deal of respect towards people who tackle on oil painting.
It's a great medium, but doesn't look to easy.
Those faces you did in painter somewhere in the beginning of your sketchbook are very nice to.
Painter looks like alot of fun, I'll check it out when I get bored with my pencil.

jtheanswer: nice to hear these things man! thank you!
well I hadnt post often last days but Im working hard (bought some books including Marvel stuff so studying and practicing like hell:D ) - i still mainly focus on stick figure gestures/construction so nothing fancy for viewing...
I also study comic inking regarding my BW feaver:donk: so there is hope some more quality lines and hatching will follow sooner or later.
but to make you happy now, here´s my Zbrush doodle, lowpoly cage done in XSI, all detailing including eyes in ZB (pretty cool modeller by the way!!)

well I know I should do more real life drawing and I ve decided to step into that when Praha will be more hot (real spring or summer) - Im going to sketch people via pens or somthing but now I prefer warm home and using digital mediums:blah:
regarding using oils, not Ive never tried em but I think I would be lost because of need to color mixing and brush dirting on your canvas etc.:dad:
but I´d like to try it someday!

Dude, awesome sketchbook. I really like your pure black and white pieces; it's tough to work without midtones, but you've managed very nicely. Really nice environment work, too, in particular the cinema and the last two mountain ranges. Nice character pieces, though as you've said, most could use more interesting poses (the archer on horseback is awesome, by the way; very dynamic, and great color mood).

im more of a illustration background but concept art is always a side intrest.. i usually incorporate loose movement stokes when i paint the background with the characters.. always gives the whole piece consistancy in action. and thanks for kind words
i really love your sense of diversity with every single digitla work you have up. its actually mind blowing to me cuz i always tend to have the similar look for everything i do,even when i diversify.. and its nice to see people with zbrush work up, im trying to play around the program myself
o and i love the girl w/ the gun, great angle and atmosphere.. id like to see more works of the sort, ill keep on eye on your book, i definatly see a lot of progress through these couple of pages.

lots of nice studies in here, looks like you got a good rythm with changing subject matter/studies/imagination drawing. Nice. I like the lost enviro and the blue face the best. I think on the face you may have overstated the shadow on her cheek a bit. On the jungle, i can't really find a focal point. You should work on making your composition so that the viewer's eye goes "in" to the drawing slowly, and there is a logical pathway through your environment, instead of presenting it all at the same time.
Thanks for the good crits in my book, i look forward to seeing some more here.

Great work up in here man, you do a good job of keeping the studies relatively quick and full of energy, you're learning a lot that way. Nice job with all the enviros, and you're getting really good with likeness, Audrey Tautou and Ben Kingsley look pretty spot on. Just get some life studies in there and work at the anatomy and you'll be killin in no time.
Kudos!
