Sniffs and Light Sabers

Here are 2 things I've done this week.

I'd love to have some critiques and comments about those.

Something I'd like to get rid of is this smooth aspect ... I feel it's taking out a lot ...
I know I really have to work to make a more effective use of the strokes [more with less].

these pics are pretty cool.
the pose on the second one is not very dynamic but the orc head is sweet.
maybe orcs are gettin boring... ;)

maybe hpx's style is best used by himself

decent stuff but easy on the influences.

PZ > I'm not Hidding that the wording has a HPX feeling [and it was intended] but, hey, take out the wording and tell me again this looks like HPX's stuffs !? I love his artwork but I aint copying ... if this is what you were saying ...
Your "easy on the influences" really make me laugh !!!
Hey, try that, take any kind of Pic [good or bad] and drop a Bold text on it with a pixelized font ... is this the only thing that makes HPX's style ?!!!! Hell NO !! There is much more to it than the last second text dropped over the painting ... yeah ... there is a painting below !! Now if you tell me that you don't like the way I've used the text or even you don't like the pic, that's fine with me !!! But don't give me the "easy on the influence" thing !!
Hum ... I may be a bit ... on the edge on this one ... but forgive me if it's too much ... I know those 2 pics aint much but I had no replies since 1 week on this :rolleyes: ...

I even posted a link to the specific painting of HPX's that I felt your painting was influenced by. So YES I do believe there is a painting underneath the text that was dropped on there. but that is infuenced too. But I don't care a bit. I as well as probably every other artist on these boards has probably done a couple hpx inspired pics.


sorry, the fact that you DID drop the text on there calls attention to HPX's style. The fact that it is a green goblin/orc head with a smirk and large nose adds to that.

I didn't say anything besides what I said because it is obvious you know what you are doing. The stuff you posted isn't bad so there is no way I should have to be careful with my words. I was warning you to be careful of your influences or you might start traveling down a dark path of never having your own style.

It wasn't supposed to be an argumentative post, just calling attention to the fact that you can do better. There is no reason for you to get angry at me because I can see that you shouldn't need to be influenced this much.

blah, I keep repeating the same things over. Whatever, keep painting and have fun with it.

ahhhh ... sorry for my bad vibes ;) but imagine this :
you arrive to the office on Monday morning, perhaps the worst day in a week, frustrated for not having any reply on your post, getting stressed and paranoid by the virus thing, I log on and I read that I've been influenced to much by another artist ... now yes ... I get mad :rolleyes:
Anyway, I know and you know that those 2 pics are not the best you have ever seen and yes the "sniff" wording makes you think of HPX but ... please ... understand that I would die to have some good constructive comments ... of course you are free to mention HPX ... I should have done it myself.
The other point that itch me is that you feel the painting itself has HPX influence ... :( I'm sorry but no, I see none. None in the style, 1% in the content {yes it's a face}. Trust me I DID NOT think at any time of HPX while painting.

I agree that the Sniff thing is a bit HPXish but hey, it's text !

faz your work looks good.

1st pic--good execution but it could use some sharpening of details and colors to help us focus on a certain point--its all the same bluriness/intensity--BG is too flat

2nd pic--the design is ok but i think it could be pushed furhter--looks like you made it all up--looking at references for metal/robotics could help the design process. i also dont like the red halo around the character or teh ambiguos BG
