This be my first post, but I've around here for quite around. Most of you may have seen me at the bottom of the forum page, acknowledged as 'Guest.'

Anyway, I've spent the last two months lurking around here and EatPoo learning more and more and eventually forgetting it all due to various online games; most of which I've trashed.

In any case, here are a few fruits of my labor.

All of these are from reference and made in OpenCanvas 1.1. The first three are based on photos from an Alex Ross artbook, Mythology.

On-the-fly-attempt. Here is my desparate and pitiful attempt to copy Alex Ross's painting style. It was based off of a photo of Ross' father, Clark Ross, who was the model for Norman McCay, protagonist of one of Alex's DC series Kingdom Come. Needless to say, I needed more practice.

Value study. Kinda looks like he's biting his lower lip. Gotta fix that...

Color Study. I cheated so bad here.

Value study. Based on a random photo I grabbed out of my morgue (reference gallery). Got this particular one from a link at photolinks.com

Color Study. Reference grabbed off of Google Images. The big, wrinkled coral in the foreground was frustrating me, so I turned it in to a rock. It kinda takes away some dimension to the background, now that I look at it.

More tomorrow. Maybe.

Let me be the first to say:

WELCOME to the sketchbook section!

Im liking how your work is looking so far. The first one is probably my favorite although I'd say theres quite a bit much just plain white in that face. I'd also like to see some of your pencils when you get a chance to scan some in.

Anyways, use this sketchbook as a good way to motivate yourself to start improving :)

Hey good job on the paintings. And now for the crit.

Supermans face looks strained. The lips make it look like he is having a bad day. It maybe do to the fine lines on his face and the odd lighting on his lip. Watch the amount of contrast in the shading. Use a little less for things like folds and creases on the skin.

The First painting of the old man has the feel of El Grecos angular style which I like very much.

I had a hard time reading the fishes on that last one. Keep an eye on the amount of contrast between hues they have about the same lightness as the background colors. Make the Background lighter or darker than the fishes.

Aesir- Thanks! My pencils are lacking, though, since I've been doing a lot of work straight on the computer. Plus, my scanner isn't exactly accessible at the moment.

Begonzolez - Thanks for the crits. I sorta darkened the background to the fish painting. Don't quite know how much it helps, though. I'll get around to fixing Supes eventually.

Anyway, more crap. Mostly doodles.

I just set pen to tablet for a few minutes and this was the result: Pissed off looking monk; probably lost his cat or something. Then, studies of those crazy neck muscles.

Neck studies in action.

Rather messy gesture drawing of a female form and some arm studies.

Arm studies in action. Don't think I quite hit it, yet.

Saw this exercise with tiny gesture figures in another sketchbook. Forget whose, though. They were pretty fun, and they felt more natural than my full-scale figures.

Random crap.

Trunk study. The lighting on the reference was horrible.

I feel like I'm going 'round in circles with my anatomy. (I'd draw from life if I had one.) I think I should go find some Hogarth and Bridgeman books. I also just downloaded a bunch of Loomis; I guess I should read them.
