perfect sphere

I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tutorials on how to make a perfectly round and smooth sphere made of plaster (or other more suitable
material).

I've always wanted to make one for still life studies and could never figure out how to make one without already having a sphere (to use as a mould).

you can either spend hours sanding plaster to the right shape, or make a mold of a sphere that is the right size then casting it with plaster.

so the best thing would be is to find a pre-existing sphere and just copy it.

Come on guys, very simple; go into space. Or a vacuum tube . . .

Or perhaps just some sort of liquid; i.e. if you've ever made shot for shotgun shells ( I don't reccommend it ! ) after you've melted the lead you basically drop it into anti-freeze one to cool it and two to create a round shape (not exactly perfectly round... )

In short, just copy it from something else...

:\ I'd just go out and buy a sphere if I were you. I don't really get why you need to make one, unless you feel this is some kind of artistic expression to make a perfect sphere (like that monk drawing the perfect circle). If you make a mold of an existing one you'll get a crease where the mold pieces went together. I'd say try to find a ball bearing. How big does it have to be and does it have to be out of plaster?

Buy a basketball or a football ball or better yet a plastic ball the kind young kids use to play, make a hole in it and fill it with plaster. Wait a few days and use a X-acto knife to cut the ball in half... use some sandpaper to make it more soft around.

Don't waste too much money and don't cut your fingers in the process.
