Here's another concept drawing I did recently. I had to come up with some ideas for a futuristic refinery setting. Comments welcome

I've seen better sketches on Tim Hortons' napkins.. :)

Of course I'm kidding, Nice work!! I want to see more!

Great detail and form, rock-solid perspective. Its complexity makes it solidly "hard sci-fi" in vibe.

I guess my only criticism is that its form does not immediately evoke a) its purpose or b) its setting. If it's a refinery, it's just a little surprising that is doesn't have more expose piping and ductwork (unless those open ports facing left are for said pipes). Its spindly design almost suggests a low-gravity or underwater setting...

But these are just nitpicks on the conceptual underpinnings (and if this is pretty far in the future, my points above become moot!). Would love to see more environments from you!

Best,
-Atomick

Thanks for the comments Atomick. This concept is only for a small portion of a much larger complex.

Thank You for your compliments!

I have been coming to this site since it started. I have been enjoying the creativity offered here by the wide range of talented artists. This has been very inspirational to me. So I hope I will be able to return some of what I've taken.

Thanks again.

AWesome stuff.

I've always wanted to know, bu how do people add the grey colors to concept art. Is that with a physical media or with a computer program like Photshop?

Mad_Lobster the grey is felt markers. I'm sure there are a lot of different ways to use markers in concept art. I use the markers to do the initial drawing. Then do the line work. After I've completed the line work I will go over various parts of the drawing that need to be darkened. I explained this a little more in the ( another ship concept ) thread I posted the other day. I would also suggest going to:

http://www.artbyfeng.com/

Feng has a very thourough explanation of materials and techniques in his “how I work” section.

Doug Chaing also explains how to use markers on his site:

I hope this will help you.

Very well drawn and rendered. Is that biro linework? it looks really cool. Your curves and ovals are impressive too, did you use a guide for those or freehand? I'd really like to see it sticking out of a windswept ocean or something. Really nice work :)
