although i have to admit, most of these are just sketchs that are done to vent, amuse myself, or other things and i guess arnt serious study....i'm hopeing to change that soon too. but bear with me :nohope:

This was practice useing an actual ink well and nib. i had never used one before. the grain of the paper was very rough so the edges of this are probably really shacky. i used a reference from a magazine of a flower vase...the angel was holding the vase inbetween its wings...if you were wondering where the vase part came in. but i guess i stylized the wings cause you cant tell they were curved around anything...oh well, its also an older piece:

Haha! Laugh at my newbtastic skills!! this was my first attempt at drawing a car. This was my first car, and i just sat in front of it and tried...after the front grill it all went down hill...but i thought it would be an interesting thing to post at the begining. :^^;:

Just a doodle done for a contest somewhere were i tried to design my own Harry Potter character. i never did much past this image, but i liked the general form of her body, and how her personality seemed to jump off the page:

This was an experiment in abstract art and ink wash. i had just gotten my ink well and nib, so i started doodleing on a blank page and ended up smudging it around with a paper towel, cause i was mad at the time...i ended up likeing it. this is fairly new:

Good work so far. Your linework seems confident. My only suggestion is that I would like to see some more attempts at conveying volume in your characters. However, that's just my suggestion.

@trickynick1001: What do you mean by conveying more volume to my characters? i must sound so newbtastic. Hahahaha! BUt theres only one way to learn right?

he just feels that ur drawings seem a lil 2d... and hints that u might wanna try making them feel more 3d. This doesnt necessarilly mean adding shadows.... coz wen u are doing a line drawing... adding shade and tone doesnt add all the volume. To make them pop add contrast... like blackening certain shadow areas and making sertain lines pop out by making them bolder and thinger than others. Most of u lines are all the same weight. Sometimes... to add volume it doesnt even mean drawing a line... it means suggesting that there should be a line there but not drawing it. I hope im not complicating things more. U are drawing lots of anime stylish sketches... things that tend to look 2d most of the time n e ways.
beside the point.. i think ur anime sketches are very nice. Just try and vary the line types and weight to make them "pop" more. And keep up the cross hatching... it looks pretty nice... but i only see it in 2 sketches.
Keep drawing.
Kittywolf13
July 22nd, 2005, 01:09 AM
@OBX: Thanks for the info, i understand it now...yeah i dont cross hatch much cause i really dont know how. O.o; that was sorta just messin about. i really should work on my line widths...i find inking and consistancy to be my bigger problems...i figure perspective and anatomy will get better at time. but thank you for information.

unfortunatly i've had no time today to update, nor to scan in images from my sketchbook, so i'm just letting you guys know i'm around and trying...just havent had time. still take another looksie and tell me what you think. :)

July 24th, 2005, 06:29 PM
As the subject line states i have new sketchs. these are from my most recent sketch book...still these arnt studies persay but they are more developed towards my current thinking of artwork. i need to work more on my anatomy, consistancy, values, volume, and perspective. still i guess this is alright for now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/sketch001_resized.jpg
I know her right arm (our left) is a little long for her torso...and her hips are probably pivited wrong...but i'll let you guys be the judge of that. she was inspired by some fashion models i had seen on tv. i like her moody expression...the headshots were practice to try and re-make that moody expression. dont know if i succed though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/sketch002_resized.jpg
I was sitting outside when my kitty Morris came over to eat, and then came to join me. so i doodled his back end (the tiny scribble in the center) and then i tried to capture his face, very quickly (he doesnt stand still for long.) they were done in charcoal...and the other was just some abstract scribbles to fill in the space. i was still tinkering with abstract art at the time (which i should countinue)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/sketch003_resized.jpg
Concept art for a uniform/outfit for my character Tsunde...as well as haircut ideas. she's supoused to look like a boy, hence the short hair and small breasts...i just thought this sheet gave you guys an insight on how i doodle across a page in my book.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/sketch004_resized.jpg
and this is the mos recent piece of all. i did this like two nights ago while talking on the phone. again it was just basic doodles, but i was trying to concentrate on the figure...i was tired though. i kind of like the semi-self-portrait thing on the bottom left...even if the eyes are too big...theres something about it i like.
so there you go guys, bombs away...dont hold back. and maybe i'll go off and draw some more.

:?: QUESTION: what do you prefer to use? a mechanical pencil or a regular ol number 2 pencil? what do you suggest i use? i use a mechanical 5.0 pencil...but some times i doodle with a regular ol pencil.

thanks for the comments. i want to try harder at drawing better, so i figured this would be the best place to start off with, cause the critisim can be harsh sometimes. (I figured i would get used to it, seeing as i am planning to go to the art insititure of Fort. Lauderdale in january...might as well get used to being told whats wrong.)
i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who goes through phases with their drawing utensils? :) it makes me happy to hear that.
above all thanks for the comments again. such little things keep me going. :confident

Chihiro and NoFace from Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away." i love Hayao Miyazaki...hes my idle, and from time to time i take a break from my art and try to draw in his style...this was a pen doodle. i looked up and saw my poster and felt like drawing no face, then i added in Chihiro. i really like this doodle!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/sketch006_resized.jpg
More doodles, trying to add more volume to my illustrations...the two on the top left corner are supoused to be a character named Inez from a manga called "Arcana." the one in the middle, i dunno just a woman, same with the one on the top right hand corner. the one shaded on the bottom right is Yorda from the playstation2 game ICO. awesome game BTW. and the rest is random doodles.

i dunno i just wanted to try and get the basic shape of the female body useing just color blocking...i saw a few others doing it around here...but it didnt come out very well...
...i guess i lost interest cuase i'm tired and pretty upset at the moment.

Great thread of sketches, but over-all I really like that last one! I think the lighting looks awesome, as do all the little details. And this might sound really funny, but I like how you draw legs. XD Probably because I'm still learning to do them, and you make them look so easy!

Ok new illustrations, but first a couple of questions:
:?: Can someone give me any hints as to how to keep my realism eyes alligned properly?
:?: Also i would appreciate it if someone would tell me/show me some different techniques for getting gesture drawings? so that i can get different poses and practice moveing the human body properly.
Thanks in Advance!!
Now onto illustrations:
I pulled out my "Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist" by Stephen Rogers Peck, and decided to do some drawings out of it, so here they are:
1.) Male Anatomy:

2.) Mainly eyes, ears and noses:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/anatpractice002.jpg
3.) gesture drawings:

these are some points i follow when doing realism portraits and stuff
from some book i found...for get what it is
- Width of the eye is 1/5 (1 unit) of the width of the whole head(if put head on graph)
- The space between the eyes is 1 unit
- eyes are halfway down the length of the head
its also good to draw a line connecting both pupils to keep them from looking uneven...
of course some faces will be different depending on the person but everyface has similar proportions in relation to eyes nose mouth and ears...
or thats what i've been taught...

Nice drawings. It looks like you are coming along very well. Keep doing the anatomy studies too. They will help alot. I still stink myself, so I am going to go back and work on them again. Well, I will keep checking you out. Keep posting.

Studying anatomy: good! Not always the most exciting thing to draw, or the thing most guarunteed to make people sit up and say "WOW!", but it's absolutely essential. Kinda like musicians always practicing those boring scales, even though they can play Beethoven.
For gestures, I always found it helpful to draw a sweeping line from the top of the head to the bottom of one of the feet. If a figure is arching backwards, find the strongest line of action and put that down first: in that pose, it should look like a 'c'. I like the way you continue a line from the thigh and curl it around into the calf muscle. Once you have a better understanding of anatomy (let's see those muscle studies! :) ) those gestures will look too cool!
Keep it up!

i think i understand what you mean. I really have no traditional training when it comes to draw the human anatomy...all of that is self taught. (shadeing, still lifes, basic color therory i learned in high school.) so i look through alot of peoples art books and wonder about how they go about and do it. but i see what you mean and its a very interesting concept. thanks for the hint. :)

Here, this might help:
http://www.raja-animation.com/rachel/images/horse_zebras_deer/Gesture.jpg
See the gesture line? It's not hard and fast, it's just to give you an idea of the general movement of the figure. I did this out of my head, so it's not the best example I could give you...I really need to go to life drawing again!

Hello there, keep an eye out on the upper body. Where the neck joins the shoulders and the the way the arms attach. Have a look at shapes involving the clavicle (sp??) and neck muscles. Then how these join to the shoulder.
Nice stuff though!
I think emotions are a powerful tool when used with art, possibly some of my favourite pieces i've done were created based on my thoughts of terror or safety. But don't let anything stop you drawing!
Keep going!

Hey, I like your style of art. Some of your work have really nice lines to them. I read your post about doodling in math class. Funny, I did the same things but I doodled on my assignments. I use to get papers back saying "Nice doodles, but work on problems 1-20" with a big red circle around it:) I see improvements. You are getting good character designs down. Good stuff, keep posting... I'll be back. Later!

I think you should draw some kind of own manga or doujinshi. I have never seen a style like this, and I like it. I also like the reality-manga stuff. ZELDA!!^^ Hope you like that too!
I do not know, if I should call this manga, it is so 3d

When I was in lower school, there was an artist, much better than me, who was known as the class artist. The last time I saw him, he asked me to teach him to draw. When I was in middleschool, there was another artist, slightly better than me, who was known as the class artist. The last time I saw him, I asked him for comments on my drawings, he told me it was hard to give advice to someone who drew much better than him. I am now in high school my friend, who is a gifted artist from birth, is very slightly better than me. I figure the pattern is not going to stop anytime soon.
The common pattern with these three wonderful artists is that they were born great artists, so they didn't have the "urge" I felt to improve.
Wether I'm 15 years old while you're 21, you have shown incredible progress in this thread, and if you keep working at it, you will become amazing. Just look at MindCandyMan, he was about your age when he started getting serious.
Basically, the best tip I can give you is to push yourself farther than the limit.
Mucho Love, Emm.

:)
often the natural ability to draw, is ironically the stumbling block for many artists who could be great, if they sherked their ego just a little and learned foundation, their artwork could be fantastic. Too many just rely on their initial head start and take it nowhere, thats all natural talent is, its a head start, its not the end of the journey.

btw kitty, some nice things in here, but you really imo need to sit down and get with the serious studies, enough doddling, sit down with an anatomy book and learn it through and through and you'll be on your way.

these were all done with references for two reasons. 1.) i like miyazaki's style alot (hes my idol.) 2.) so i wanted to practice drawing useing minimal lines. also practiceing looser lines as well. they came out well...
...i know people probably dont want to see this, as its far from "realism" and anatomy practice...but i wanted too. i know antaomy and all other fields of art are important to study, but i want a more childlike feel to my stuff...i guess sort of like a childrens book feel. so i just felt like doing this...plus miyazaki makes me feel better, seeing as i've been down in the dumps.
i hope at least someone likes it. :}

Omni1: Thanks for the kind words. i would never have looked at it as furcadia stuff...i find that strange. lol. especially since i used to tinker around with furcadia stuff. :)
MagicMan: I agree with you whole heartly! and i admit that i do in fact slack off in all the anatomical studies that i should be doing...probably why i lack what i want. i find it hard to push myself sometimes simply cause i just want to enjoy my art rather then make it up to be work. (i suck at self teaching myself) but i do really appreciate your "tough love" approach at C&C'ing my stuff especially. Thanks!
EmmDoubleEw: That is definatly the best tip you can give any artist. i just lack drive and suck at pushing myself to do anything...which is why i dont like self-teaching myself. i prefer to have some one derict me and mentour me...but yeah...
moral of this lesson? get my crap together and practice pratice pratice. :bashful:

hey there, great stuff you've got posted, must also say I love the miyazaki style pieces you have not to mention your personal manga-style drawings. great job with the minimal line studies as well; to respond to your question the only place I can think of that has alot of good reference pictures for anatomy and such online would have to the the reference sub-forum under the photography forum here on CA. No idea if you've been there (if you have sorry and just disregard me :) ), but it's a great place I've used alot. anyway, great stuff once again.

I decided to go back and re-learn all of my basics, useing the loomis books and my Robert Peck book. I was getting really psyced about it but then the inevitable happened... my scanner officially died. :upset: at first it scanned everything, then it decided it didnt like color, now it just uploads a big black square instead of the picture. :( this makes me sad and frustrated as i wanted to get serious with my studies. (not that i still cant but i cant upload anything to show and ask for help on my progress.)
Well i had 5 pages of basic anatomy studies to scan and upload. over a period of a few days. but this is the only one that uploaded before my scanner died:

:[ this makes me very upset and has definatly put a damper on my artistic mood.
:?: Anyone know how to take digital pictures of art that actually look good? all of mine come out blurry or discolored. as this is the only way i can possiably upload things

If you're short on money and need anatomy resources the loomis books are invaluable, you should check out alot of the stuff at fineart.sk too, lots of good reference photos there you can use. The loomis mannikins look nice, and they help alot. One thing I don't see in your thread is life drawing, try it sometimes.

Well i said i'd return today with artwork and i did! and good stuff to boot!!! I buckled down and did one serious anatomy sketch useing Loomis's "Figure drawing for all its worth" and then i tried to draw an Alphonse Mucha image from a book i picked up which is about 70 drawings of his...most of them sketchs...
I did them in ArtRage because i wanted to do em in pencil but my scanner is broken so i had no way of scanning them in. So YES these are DIGITAL!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/Loomisstudy_0001.jpg
Took about an hour-ish
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/MuchaStudy_001.jpg
took about 2 hours and a half to complete this one...or less...give or take.
I really like these, now if only i could draw this kind of stuff free hand i'd be the happiest person in the world...well all i can do to improve is draw draw draw!!!

Very nice, especially since it's digital. You picked out most of the 'off' stuff on the Loomis pick, I'd only add that her torso is too short compared to her legs. Easy proportion trick: measure with your fingers (or ruler) from her groin to top of head, and then from groin to bottom of her feet. It should be exactly the same distance. Right now, there's a good quarter of an inch difference between the two. Keep it up! :teeth:

Thanks Teigrob!! I'll do that next time i do an anatomy study. I figured it'd be a little short because i couldnt adjust the canvas size...at least not change it from horizontal to vertical. But next time i do it, i'll definatly keep a ruler handy. :) i should buy myself a little metal ruler. thank you once again!

More Artrage stuff cause still no scanner. this time we have my character Crystal Ryhmes, in a much more realistic style. this was actually alot of fun to do, and also good practice with my realsim. she still doesnt look like a real person, but its waaaay better then what i started from, and really i used very little reference for the sketch, and most of it was for the lips and the general shape of the head. (both from Loomis) so yeah, tell me what you think? also give me a heads up from my last update as well, as i didnt get many comments on that one, and i really liked it. :) Thanks for looking and especially for commenting ahead of time.

My original character Tsunade done in a more realism style...her blue hair is her signature trait:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/CAkittywolf13/realisticTsunade.jpg
And then i just felt like useing a reference, so i found a pic of a model i had on my computer and decided to sketch her face....it came out alright. but her lips, chin and her face shape are slightly off...ignore the clothes or the umbrella cause i wasnt really paying attention to that. but other wise i like the eyes...i think i finally managed to get the eyes straight...whether there the proper width apart is a whole nother story...enjoy!

@ gibsini: The reason i love manga is how expressive it is. i love to express emotion in my art...so it only figures that i'd be attracted to the genere...i find it diffcult to stick to my traditional studies, and try to phase in and out of the manga thing after so long. Capcom rocks!
@ Lovelock: Thanks for all the kind comments, lovelock. i really appreciate em! we really should make a support group for each other. :) i'm glad you liked the asian girl. she was really cute so i chose her as my vicitm. hahaha I wasnt to fond of the Tsunade pic. but i'm glad you liked her too. :)

The bottom lip on that last one juts out too much and the curve of the 3/4 view is very exaggerated up in the cheek bone. The eyes look fine it may be the nose and the other stuffed I mentioned that is making it look "ghetto".
Cool book very nice manga style.

Digging the Miyazaki stuff. I think practicing cartooning is an important skill as maybe even anatomy itself. Don't quote me on that though, heh. Honestly though I've met some artists who were amazing cartoonists and their characters dripped with personality, but their ability to handle the nude was lacking. So I guess not slaving over anatomy won't really kill you, but it's still very important will still end up saving you alot of time in the long run.
My favorite drawing of yours is this

Delicate line quality, color brings a nice emotional feel to it, the poise is lovely, and the finely crafted eye is wonderful. I wouldn't mind seeing you try more of this stuff.

My comment is about this one:
[QUOTE=Kittywolf13]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/kittywolf13/My%20artwork/Megami_finished.jpg
The thought bubble on top (as well as the text) looks completely thrown in at the last minute, with none of the skill that the rest of the image is rendered in. This leads one to assume that it was added to an image that ::Ahem:: is not alogether yours...I am by no means trying to offend, but this is what it looks like.
Something else that points to this is the fact that the images vary wildly in style and apparant ability. Some have pretty big anatomical flaws, while others are accurate. Knowledge doesn't just disappear overnight. It may be true that we all do good drawings and crappy drawings, but we don't just forget correct anatomy...
I am not making an accusations. I just think these are things that you should think about.

I wouldn't worry about not being able to draw art noveau stuff free hand, since it's based on measurements and proportions, dynamic symetry and other stuff I don't know about. But i will address this post. It was thrown in at the last minute. i spent an hour trying to figure out a background to go with Megami (and for the record the character isnt mine, its my best friends character. its gift art for her...just incase i hadnt mentioned it before.) so i threw in the word bubble because megami is a money ...and i dont do manual scripting very well and for some reason Photoshop wasnt letting me make text any bigger then 6pt. it sucked. it really does distract from the over all image and this disappoints me...but it isnt stolen...although i'll consider the differences the next time...i alwasy have trouble with consistancy.

Well still no scanner and really not much in the drawing department...but i do have something a little out of the ordinary. I had to make a sculpture for my Art Appreciation class. my concept was "WanderLust" and this is what i came up with:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/CAkittywolf13/sculpture_resized-.jpg
The wings were hand made by me useing some sort of galavanised steel...and the base is a headlight from my old '87 Jeep Cheroke. i thought it was a nifty little piece considering its my first ever attempt at sculpture. its a bit of whimsy. :) Enjoy it i hope.

Nice work on the sculpture. I like the playfulness of it. for some reason i can't help to think of Picaso's Bull head sculpture when I look at it. I think it's just the use of found objects and only using the two elements in it.
Are you planning to follow up on this sculpture? I would. if you do next time try and be more careful with the wirework. Keep it as strait as you can on the long strait areas.

Thanks for the comment. i doubt i will do anything more with the sculpture as its due tommorow evening. the wireing was done by hand...i had very limited supplies...as in my hands and one set of rounded pliers...hence its wonky, (plus the wire was in a spool so getting it out strait was like impossiable, unless theres a trick to it that i dont know about) the wire was also pretty bendy, so when i held onto it, and put force on another end, it would usually bend where i was holding on to it. besides i actually like how bendy it came out, cause it gives the wings more of a 3D illusion to them, cause they curve around the light.
Still thanks for the comment!!!

Kitty, I see some real progression in this thread. Your proportions are improving immensely. Keep at those anatomy studies. Believe me, I know that they are boring. I have been working on anatomy for a couple of months now and I can tell that they are paying off. You don't have to tyotally devote all energy to the studies top gain from them. I have been trying to push out at least two good studies a week. That leaves time to play around and draw what I like as well. Bottom line is, these studies are crucial to become a serious artist, at least in the character and concept art realm. You just need to find a pace of learning that works for you. Good luck and I hope to see some great work from you in the future. :) .... I will be checking back.

I know you're into manga and art nouveau so I thought you might be interested in these fellows: Jules Cheret, Winsor McCay, Toulouse Lautrec. Here's my advice: It's important that you read various books on art, about different appraches and theories. Also do some drawings of realistic people, from life or photos. Here are some not so well known anatomy books: R.G. Hatton's "Figure Drawing"; Reginald Marsh's "Anatomy for Artists". To the library!

hey Irene,
the girl portrait with the flower in her hair is very good! do more! :)
what kind of things do you like to draw? it looks like you like to draw anime characters, and things out of your head. A lot of people have mentioned that you should draw from life, this is good advise. But that doesn't mean you can't draw from your head also. Drawing from life only helps you understand objects and the human form, so when you draw from your head you can express more of what is in your imagination, it will be easier and satisfieing.
here is a study you can do that is fun and you will learn a lot from it. I did it in college for HM assignment and I learned soo much and had a lot of fun.
Make a charcter because that seems like something you like to do, and sketch the gesture out on traceing paper.
When you have that gesture down( take picture of yourself to find a good gesture or act it out while looking in a mirror)
Put another traceing paper on top of the rough gesture, then start working out the proportions and suggested anatomy( look in the mirror often to see how your arm, leg or torso is, keep checking back at yourself if you can't get that body part right, this will help and you).
Put another traceing paper on top and fine tune your nude figure of your character. yet another traceing paper and wrapp clothes or armor or whatever on her/him( look for ref. online or in book of clotheing ref.).
This is a good study to help you, 1. draw from your creativity. 2. helping you use reference 3. understanding the layers of structureing a character with clothing.
keep it up girl. I feel the same way about putting emotion in your artwork, wee need more artwork like that in the industry. ;)
A VERY good book to check out is....
she was my teacher in college and she was really great on how to study the figure and clotheing, you will learn a lot from this book. :)

Ok so i've neglected this thread alot due to my lack of scanner...and i know you all want to see life studies and anatomy studies, but my insperation for such things is both lacking and limited to digital programs such as ArtRage, OpenCanvas and oekaki. I did tinker with realism in a few of my oekaki's recently...but yeah...
In other news i revived an old website of mine:
Yeah i know...geocities...i've had this account forever...but i'm poor and cannot afford to pay a host for now. so for now this will have to do.

Thanks VCTR, glad you liked my sculpture...it was my first ever and it was pretty fun.
STYLER, thanks! i find it very whimsical! :)
Thanks for your concern bengonzalez, we made it alright. other then the storm breaking our water pump system and our AC (which were still trying to fix) we made out all right. 5 days no power, 7 days no water, still in the process of fixing the AC. Thankfully it was really nice, airy and cool those 5 days, and its still relativly cool (but its warming up again :( ) that coupled with a working barbeque and propane camping stove, everything turned out fine. it was like fine camping! with good food!! stores were open two days after the storm hit, so running out of food or water was not a problem...and gas lines were the only problem. BTW the storm hit land in Marco Island which is only about a 20 minute drive from here...somehow we got the least amount of any dammage. (Marco had about 70-90% dammage, Everglades city 90%, La Belle about the same and so on. Miami and Fort Lauderdale also incurred alot of dammage cause they never prepared for the storm...assuming the storm wouldnt cross derictly over...wasnt very smart.)
But yes thank you for your concern i appreciate it!!!
Thanks POISE! thats alot of valueable information!! i think it really will help me too! I'll just need to convert my scanner that broke into my small light box and i'll be set to do that...and then when i ever buy a new scanner i'll be able to post the results. i know that it isnt all life studies..but i have like little to know experience with life studies so it would benifit me to do some. Thanks for the book suggestion as well! i'll keep an eye out for it. Reference material is alwasy good in bulk! ^_~
Thank you everyone!

Hey no bumping your own thread with out paying the toll. more sketches. :P
The line are on the first one from the lass batch looks very nice. ON the second one I'm thinking elf. The ear doesn't work on that one and you created some hotspots that blur the image to the background. even when you do a such a soft painting keep an Eye on the tone that the colors are making. squint your eyes and see if it all gets lost in the image. Then try to go back and fix it by shifting the darkness a little so that it doesn't look so washed out.

What did you use on the second one of those digital pictures? It looks nice, but feels overly soft. I think the rest of it could use some incorporation of hard edges, like you did for the eyes, which look much more solid.

Finally got my new computer up and running...sort of. but at least i have a graphics tablet for the time being and i can draw again. so i did some anatomy practice! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! i was over at Eatpoo.com and there was a link for a newb's guide and i decide to read it...i chose to do two things it stated. 1.) never use a white canvas and 2.) start with black and white and go from there to color. so hence this:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/CAkittywolf13/anatpractice01.jpg
The tan background is definatly easier on the eyes too. i hope someone likes this. C&C away. Oh! I used Peck's "Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist." the page numbers are on the actual image. :) if yah cant read em ask.

Must get back into drawing...but for right now i will show you some of my photography that i every so often dabble in. i dont have a fancy camera, just a sony cybershot. and other then the text and and borders, these images were not altered with. the ones that are highly saturated in blue, was due to my camera and the overcast day. it was pretty cool.
so here we go:
This is a series of photograghs of the B-17 "Aluminum Overcast" an old war plane that was on exhibit at my local airport. my boyfriend and i took over 70 pictures of the old bird, and this is a small selection of my favorites:

These next two pics are ones that my boyfriend took, but i wanted to share them for two reasons...one there really nice, and two the cockpit photo is by far my favorite piece out of the entire series...frankly i gave him credit, but i wasnt sure who actually took the picture. i might have.

Wow , so i missed some updates! great work nice variety in sketches. The car is looking nice, the only crit you probably already see the line quality is shaky and dead.. but thats what practice is for huh?as far as shading.. have you thought of using some prismas? just an idea. Keep up the good work
edit* what are you inking with? the perspective also looks like it could be a little wonky but if its from a photo it could just distortion. If reference was used try and post in and I'll see what C&C i can muster.

i was inking with some feltip pens...because my microns dried out. :( so i need to buy some more. and the perspective is off...because well i didnt use it. lol. i freehanded the image by copying the reference. i know its off, and the linework isnt perfect...but i still like it enough to try and finish it. Prisma's would be nice, but i'm not sure how well it would come out. i guess i'm a bit afraid of screwing it up...but like you said. practice practice practice. :)

i've tried the old nib and ink...but i really dont know what i'm doing. ^_^; i dont even know which way is the proper way to hold the pen. lol. that and the paper i used the first few times was too grainy so the nib kept getting caught in the threads of the paper. it made a mess. i like drawing in pen too...i just dont do it so often, cause i like how flexiable a pencil can be. but you know practice, practice, practice...will make things better. :D i hope.

and for fun, my kitty Kalee:

Ello again Kitty. Some good influences you've got. The Furrs are the best so far I think. And I saved a bit of those photos for reference :) The blues in the B-17 pics are crazy.
Crit time: IMO you should start working on drawing the figure or any form in space. Now what does that mean? It means not just looking at the silhouette and drawing matching lines. Probably the best way to explain it is drawing primitives matching the limbs (i.e. box for the head, cylinder for the arms, etc). This makes matching proportions a bit easier since you're just using primitives and it gets you thinking about how things turn in space.
Now go forth and rocketh.

Nice work Kitty I like the manga work you are doing but keep at the figure drawing. It looks like its working well for you.
On the last one your pencils were looking promising. The ink is not doing justice to the sketch. Try and get a little more line variation in there. If you are using drafting pens try and go over the line a few times in areas you want a little thicker. But like i said before you should really try and learn to work with a drawing pen and brushes for ink. It's hard at first but it's also easier to get better lines out of them after a little practice.

Used photo reference for this one but change the face from a profile to this view...wanted to have her somewhat faceing the viewer...somethings off but at the same time i dont want to touch it. O_<;
this ones much older, but i dont remember uploading it. i really liked the loose lines. supoused to be me...i was pouting and fumeing over something dureing choir practice...so i drew myself, instead of listening to the directors instructions:

oh yes and i love drawing with those silver click zebra pens...there just so smooth...
yup guess thats everything for now...i think tommorow i will spend the day at the library...gathering historical references...and or drawing from books or people reading around me...make it a day trip. yup. enjoy i hope!

Nice stuff! It's good to see you bust out of your comfort zone every so often to draw cars and the like. Keep up those anatomy studies, as it seems to be your weakest part (especially faces). Keep it up, and remember to have fun! Looking forward to more.

Something inspired by a doll...yes a doll. their called Dollfies/Super Dollfies and their collectable doll/figure combination made of resign (much like a model kit) and super possiable. there beautifully designed...especially the faces. there great and admitingly i'd love to get my hands one...but there so expensive...oh well...one can dream right?
Hope you enjoy anyways

well its been a million years since i last posted. not really...but it has been some years. O_o; Alot has happened to fuel my disappearance. I found a job, i lost the job due to this stupid economy (and have been searching for work for over a year.) my relationship of 5 years ended (which left me rather traumatized and with issues), my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer...and things continue to look up and get more complicated. such is life right? I have been drawing, but not "studying" like i should have...so i doubt the following dump will show much in the way of progression, but i just wanted to prove that im still alive...and hopefully will try and work again at what i know will make me better. ^_^;; these are in no particular order:

Woo! another update from me? no way. Anywho, i went out today and got some new pencils and some moleskin sketch books, a new library card to check out new reference material and downloaded a bunch of stuff from the reference section. I felt like drawing something so i figured id start!
I started with Loomis's Heads and Hands...its from the begining of the book...but i got bored, and so i soon moved onto Loomis's Figure drawing for all its worth. I started at the begining...or close to it anyways...and just drew what i saw and read, and drew. Then i tried a little free hand...then countinued...i did put page numbers and such...
i also tried a portrait from a reference pic of a random model i found on the net...but by this point i was getting tired. (its 2 AM! :P i know no excuses) so the shading and everything isnt superb...but i figured id slap it in there too...ummm This is also my first time useing the attachments. hope it works. O.o;
C&C please!
Also could someone tell me how to put a thumbnail where it lists all the threads in the subforum. you know right next to the title of my thread? Im curious to know how you do that?

Decided to hop on over from the Wacom forum to see what's what, looks like your anatomy and sense of movement are really tightening up and looking great!
