No offense, but I have no idea what it is....if this is suppose to be abstract, I don't find the doodads and seemingly random lineweight very aesthetically appealing.

And don't use photoshop before learning to use a pencil...

...seriously, don't.

You can use a rusty nail to make a mark. You don't need to run from your computer and go back to the Stone Age of pencils...
The basics of art and drawing remain the same, digital or traditional. It is only the physical skill requirements that differ.

The "Type of Art" this falls under is called "DOODLE."
NOTHING more.
It is NOT abstract art by ANY definition of the word.
It is NOT surreal.
It is NOT expressionist.
It's not anything. It doesn't illustrate anything, it doesn't convey any emotions, it doesn't even classify as an artistic study.

You wasted your time throwing it into Photoshop to color it, and you wasted OUR time posting it. It has no "concept," and is piss-poor on an executional level, digital OR traditional.

I'd title it "garbage," and put it there.
-3/10 concept, 0/10 execution

Madster, I want you to do something for me:

1. Take your index fingers; prepare them if you need to: finger push-ups, stretching, etc.
2. Hook them.
3. Insert into mouth.
4. Pull in an outward-upward direction and don't move until your face is stuck that way and your personality reflects your eternal physical expression of ethereal felicity.

Let's not scare new artists away.

Break.

Now...

Medina, this does appear to be more of a doodle than anything else. Its shape is similar to that of a hand, but obviously there is no sense of anatomy. What was the thought behind this piece? Even abstract work is thought-out ahead of time. The lines seem inconsistent--some are sketchy and uncertain, while others are rigid--which in my opinion detracts from the overall piece. Shading and a background would be nice.

Dude. I've seen your work. You have no right to judge ANYone else. Though really, the fact that you ARE a shitty all round artist doesn't indicate your right to give crit.

What DOES degrade your right to talk is the fact that you're a complete asshole about it. What gives you the right to be so cruel? You never bothered taking anyone else's crit on board. You're arrogant, unobservant long winded and a waste of forum code. Take a step back and take a good long look at yourself before you attack anyone else.

****

Now for the pic.

The concept is pretty cool actually, I like abstract mind wandering doodly type pieces. I also like how the inking is very clean. My reccomendation would be to work a little more on perspective because the fingers of the hand (I think thats what it is, right?) seem to be all twisted round at the base. If you want to carry it on further, maybe take a look at saveloomis.org and look at some of his guides on drawing hands, it gives you a good idea of how to sort of 'build' them, and you could modify the technique to suit the long alien like fingers.

Madster is running around giving scathing remarks and this is the type of thing he produces? Traced hand no less...

Oh the irony.

I personally wouldn't be too concerned with barking poodles.

If a blind man told you the sky is blue, would you refuse to believe it just because he's blind? Who cares if someone's the crappiest artist ever(not saying that you are madster), why don't you actually consider what's being said rather than who said it?

I think it has more to do with the way it's being said. ;)

whoo, Magic man, i know Madsterīs comment can be backed up...but to show his pic is kinda low...lets not al turn into that just becuase of innesesary cruel and unhelful comments that pop out sometimes....let him be ( theres a lot of people hating him is ways right now, i think is enought XD)

Is also wrong to discorage people becuase they presented unfinished work in the "work im progress seccion"...(i mean ....duh....)please Medina, show us an update soon :)

excuse me for saying so but.. update of what? what is there to update? how can something so... uncommentable be updated? I mean sure, you can add colors... and uh.. things? but update? work in progress? what did the artist try to achieve there anyway? I really mean NO offense. But this is really an uncommentable and unbased piece. anything said and done has to be strictly subjective. Will madina get the anatomy going in this piece? Or lay down the perspective? Even "art" has bases and reference points. Otherwise we can only say "uh huh" or "nuh uh". No more.

You reap what you sow, you play with fire you get burned.

Maybe he doesn't realise how hurtful his comments can be to artists trying to find their feet, which is okay - but hey, he'd better be able to take it when people dish shit back in his direction.
