No, it's not a new superhero. It's.. uhm.. a lionman.. somethin'. :blah:
Second drawing of this concept, crits and tips are VERY welcome. I really want to improve this creature.
Thanks.

New version (sketch only).
The new, hopefully improved, version is red one. The old one that you can see on the picture above is the one that i put in blue behind the new one for reference.
Changes:
*The head. Redrawn from a couple of refpics.
*The feet (foot). Larger. Also changd the claws slightly.
*The legs. More muscular.
*The mane. 'Complete mane makeover'
And about the "angry posing". I'll get to that later when i know that all the physical proportions on the creature is right. Same on the environment.

howdy, er... depends on how you want to improve, it could be just more detail, or make it look like its been in the wars. if you draw your crature in a scene, doing something you may get more inspiration from your own work...
good pic tho. all i can say to improve, is adapt the character. (state the obvious i know...)

Get as much lion profile reference as you can. Unless he's supposed to be the Cowardly Lion, his expression is all wrong. He looks tentative, almost embarrased, where he should look regal and/or fierce. The body language isn't helping either.

Definitely get a ref, as Elwell suggested. Also, his legs look rather small and unsubstantial to be supporting all that weight. The feet could probably be larger too.

yes, he definitely needs larger legs...

'Larger' as in wider and stuff
or
'Larger' as in longer?
...or both?

I think I want to go with more muscular legs and keep them at the length they are now, and bigger feet. Because i want the creature to have short legs and big head and long arms.
I've tried to find good ref-pics of lions in profile, but I haven't found anything. If someone who reads this knows where you can find good refs of lions in profile, please tell me.
I will also try to make him more aggressive-looking.
Thanks to all who has commented.

And yes, I meant more muscular, not longer.

You've shrunken his face too much. Before, it was proportional to the huge body, comical expression or not. Now, it's a giant creature with a little lions face stuck on.
I also preferred the original face to this "too-obviously reference pictureed" one. He lost all the original personality you gave him, and now looks like something any hack with photoshop could make.
Don't get so wrapped up in suggestions when you ask for critiques. Keep to your original vision, just correct obvious Technical Flaws. Anything else is personal opinions, and only "dilutes" your image in the long run.
If you were working on a development team for a company, this type of "design by committee" approach is more common, but for individual pieces, you are shortchanging yourself, AND your imagination.
I strongly suggest you ditch the photorealistic reference, AND the cheesy mane. Return to your original picture. Work on HIS eyes to make him more menacing. Slightly adjust HIS ears to not look quite so low and shapeless (don't change their size).
This is NOT a "Dr. Mephisto" lab creation with 5 asses. Stop trying to make it one. Same goes for the feet. Looking at lion refs should have proven that to you. Your "revised" feet are even smaller, but less feline looking...
UNDO the REDO! Your original was better (the skin/fur was one of the few areas needing work, along with the eyes, and the teeth. Other than that there was nothing wrong with it)...

I gotta agree with Madster that your original was much better. What bothers me the most about the original though, is the smooth lighting and shading going on. Its great if the creature was hairless, but since you distinctly show fur on the edges, the rendering of the shading looks weird (for something with fur over its body at least). Possibly if you worked on texturizing him a bit more to convey the fur over the body, it would look pretty sweet. I also wouldnt mind seeing this guy in a different pose, 3/4 perhaps?
Nice work tho.

Holy shit-balls!!! Is that a "LIGER"?!!!
But seriously, pretty cool shtuff. I think the second version captures the lion feel much better. The first one is drawn better but it doesn't look like a big cat to me, more like a lion-bear.

howdy doody...
i dont realy believe that your picture is all that bad at all. he looks like a lonely depressed lion man. if you want the right sizes your nearly there, just think what would happen if a lion actually evolved into a more man like crature, i agree with the other post, it would be cool to se him in a different pose. but im sure ur final piece will be more detailed. thats all for now.
over and out...
