It´s not just the lenses - that are surely important - but the chip itself too. It doesn´t matter if you´ve got 8 megapixel crammed on a crappy chip - it will always look bad. Better is to look for a good chip (e.g. Fuji) and for the most uses (if you´re not a professional photgrapher) 3.6 - 4 megapixel will be sufficient.

I'm learning. The lens are what makes the digital camera!
Most digital cameras feature 3x optical zoom (digital zooms are pointless, they're just like increasing the image size with Photoshop...it pixelates! So I always laugh when I see cameras advertising, "20x DIGITAL ZOOM!") ;)

So how can you tell a good lens from a bad?

And I'm assuming '4R' is just your typical computer paper size, 8 x 11.5?

you cant really. you are ok with anything in the region of 4 megpix. all it is, is how detailled you want your pic, how many dots to make up the scene. and of cource, ur lense needs to be at least. clean... :rendered:
