The games are only for show.

And poor Nintendo isn't learning from their mistakes...
Back during the N64 vs. PS race, PS pulled ahead with inferior technology, but more functionality [My god it plays CDs]. The N64 had the better games, better graphics, better everything, but it was only a game machine.
Now come the NRev vs. PS3/Xb360 race, Nintendo is hellbent on making their console purely for gaming, even though both the PS3 and Xb360 are going for the whole "We're god! WE do EVERYTHING!". It's probaby not going to sell very well. :[

Um, well, in japan, how big it is does matter. And M$ is going to tank it again over there. America and the Uk is there only saving grace, that and Halo.
PS3 please. And the only reason to get a Revolution is to play the back catalouge of games. That reason only is enough to warrant a purchase, as the new games will probably suck. Super Mario RPG please. :^^:

Doesn't really matter though. Japan has brand loyalty to sony, and to japanese anything really. I remember reading a poll of some sort where it showed the xbox only sold like 9000 some odd units in the period of
six-months, whereas the ps2 was still selling like 100k plus or something crazy like that.
But from the looks of it the ps3 doesn't look that big, hard to tell in pictures. i dunno.

Ah, the lovely fan boy issue. Personally I'm buying the Rev and the PS3. I didn't buy an X-box, I had no intention on ever getting on, seeing as two of my friends who had them sold them cheap after having them a few monthes, and a few more just stopped using them because of all the breaking down, and lack of games.
Why is it a popular event to bash Nintendo? I mean, every game directly from Nintendo sells quite well, and for a reason, they're fun. I'm sorry if you think you're to mature to play simple fun games.
And just another note, Nintendo really isn't even trying to compete with the two other systems, they're doing their own thing, settling at what they think is important, at least that's how I see it.
Monkeylizard- it's really easy to pick and choose screen shots to make your point. Just choosing a weaker shot doesn't prove much to me. In my eyes RE4 is better graphically then both of those, and it's for the Cube, so go figure. It's a matter of opinion.

Did anyone buy the Playstation because it was also a CD player? I highly doubt that feature had any bearing whatsoever on the Playstation pulling ahead. The Playstation won because it had a headstart, it had the better storage medium, better hardware, and way, way more games.

Why is it a popular event to bash Nintendo?
Because alot of people (myself included) used to have Super Mario shaped hemoglobin carrying the oxygen through our veins. And while we have grown up, gotten smarter, gotten better, and come to expect more, Nintendo has come to deliver less of the same ol (see: fresh worlds of adventure you can get lost in) and more monotony with a twist of lime (see: mario with a backpack, karts with TWO riders, mario party 50, star fox running with...dinosaurs!).
People keep harping on Nintendo being innovative...how about some new ideas for games? I really think people enjoyed the feelings and ideas about the early Marios (or any games) more then Mario himself....the feeling of a Joe Nobody (plumber) defying danger with slightly magical abilities and puzzle solving skills in a cool fantasy world to save a beautiful princess who is being held by a horrible monster. I want to relive the thrill and adventure over and over, not the same hero running through the same world beating the same badguy in an almost same fashion over and over.
Games (or books or movies or...) based on a pre-existing idea have certian expectations/requirements. Mario is going to have a character running and jumping his way through cute world levels, dodging and jumping on cute badguys, with sub area section minibosses to reach bowser. You collect coins on the way. You hit blocks to get powerups.
Companies like Nintendo have some of the most creative people on the planet working for them. What if they could create a (generally) non-violent adventure game, but WITHOUT any mario restrictions! The sky is the limit! Conceptually, Graphically, Gameplay, Story, Environment, Conflict....Anything is possible!
Pikmin seemed interesting, but not enough so for me to buy a system. (and now we can get sequels, sweet) Animal Crossing was The Sims: Stuffed Animals. Everything else is "The same game as last time EXCEPT *insert new feature and dumbed down gameplay*"
It's true, executing new ideas is riskier, but that's why we are humans, not robots. Isn't that what creativity is all about? Imagination? Potential? Of anybody, it's the big companies like Nintendo who have the name to be able to safely try new things, because they have the fan base to rely on for many other products. It's a shame they are wasting it.
I don't feel angry toward Nintendo because it's cool, I feel angry because they've fallen furthest from the tree, in my opinion (obviously). They've become something entirely different (see:weak, dull) from what I grew up on...
But better to have loved and lost...
Sorry to get off topic, I purposely have been trying to avoid saying something about it again. Enjoy Nintendo all you like, just don't label people as thoughtless zombies trying to be in the in-crowd without walking in others shoes. Nintendo is largely to blame for my own quitting of video games...but Big N brought me into the world, so I guess it has the right to take me out. Yes, games are supposed to be fun, and I get alot of fun from discovering and experiencing something new, which is something alot of media outlets are short on these days...
I wouldn't read 5 novels about Mario defeating Bowser, why would I play 5 games?

Let me rephrase that, I dont even care if the PS3 is twice the size of the original X-Box. I just like playstation better so it really doesn't matter even if the 360 were the size of an Ipod. I'm just not buying it untill i like the games. And when looking at the first X-Box i just don't see that happening. Bill Gates has some friggin nerve claiming that Halo 3 will be the downfall for Sony's next. Halo is 'to me at least' just another spaceshooter game, nothing special.
I believe X-Box will never escape the shadow of Playstation.

Jetpack- I completly understand your point, but like I said, I just enjoy how much fun the games are, I don't really care about how innovative things are. I think things like "TWO riders" is more along the lines of fine tuning the game play, and as said also, it's a matter of opinion. I really think the GC version of Mario Kart is the best they've made, for example.
Some of my favorite games are just the newest versions of pre existing franchises. Street Fighter is by far the best example. I could list plenty, but I think you understand my point there. Basically being innovative shouldn't be important. But this applies to all gaming. The big N just seems to be the main thing that people focus on when they're discussing gaming.
But I don't want to sound like an ass or like I'm trying to start some kind of flame war. I'll leave the trash talking to the TDome.

xbox 360.
It allows you to create a user name, and log onto network games and challenge people on-line. It's like CA.org, but with games!
Plus, it has Call of Duty 2 ! Need to say more?
I'll pick up the Nintendo Revolution as my side-system. Good ol' Nintendo! Looking forward to some Mario Kart and Mario Party on that one!

The 360 is starting to tempt me... Perfect Dark Zero is shaping up damn nicely, from what I hear there's going to be a new Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters on the Box, along with a few other games...
PS3 has KillZone though... and from the looks of things, it's actually possible it might live up to the 'Halo Killer' name the first one TRIED to make for itself. Oh... and a long standing relationship with Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear series makes me want it more, though as we saw with the Cube, he's willing to allow the big N to have a re-release or two...
Which brings us to the good ol' N, always serving up fun games. I don't care what kind of graphics or whatever shit they have or don't have, they are almost always simple fun.
In the end, though, it's all taste and opinion. Buy the system you are happy with. Hell, I might not buy any of them at least for a while since I'm perfectly happy with my NES, SNES, Genesis, PS2, and DC for the time being.

Your comparing the wrong games. They should be Killzone Vs gears of war. As for Famboism, Sure its stupid. I go with the games I like, if you like nintendo, go for it, xbox, ps3 whatever. I don't like kiddie mario games, so I won't be getting a nintendo, plain and simple. I like FPS, Online play, Racing, Strategy and the occasional RPG. Nintendos last systems fell way behind in all these gametypes, unless you like cell shaded, kiddie games. Personally, I would rather drive a ferrari around a realisitc course, then a mushroom with big wheels. The PS3 looks the most promising right now in these catagorys and thats the sole reason I base my judgement. Aside from Gears of War I didn't see anything that impressed me about the xbox 360, but who knows..

With completely realistic blood rendered in full hdr glory. So, what's so new about Gears Of War? Looks like more of the same as well. I seen the videos and previews and stuff, and i don't know why i (that's me folks, opinions may differ) should get excited about it.
All three platforms offer more of the same, PS happens to (probably) offer more of what i like. Most games i'd like to play are on PS2, and i think it'll stay that way. The XBox has one (1) game i'd like to play.

Prometheus|ANJ, you realize you've been able to play Bionic Comando on your PC for about the last 5 or 6 years right? IMO this feature is just a way for nintendo to again rehash its past success instead of actually creating anything new. Only now instead of making a new Bionic Commando, they make emulators so you can play the old ones. Even less effort.... :[ pathetic.
Prometheus|ANJ

Well, there's certainly no incentive to play any new games, especially since they're not really trying anything new either.
What I was comparing with the pics was innovation. Bionic Commando had it. Many games on the NES created whole new genres.
How many big commercial games have used a (swing) grapling hook?
There's Liero, Worms, Some japanese game with a long title, Super Metroid, maybe Tribes Vengence, a bunch of mods. Most of those didn't implement it too well.
Bionic Commando started out great, it had many faults but was on the right track, then boom, nothing.
I do INDEED share your frustration TO THE UTMOST DEGREE over the lack of worthy sequels to innovative concepts. A new Bionic Commando would be GREAT. Imagine spring physics for the arm, analog aim (maybe DS?), being able to jump! Man that would rock.
Edit: It's not gonna happen of course. Why? Because of the armoured dudes up there.

They could make a killer BC now. I would also like to see a Blaster Master remake also. The trick would be staying true to what made the original fun and being innovative at the same time. They tried it with Contra, but I hated shatter solider, and I'm not even really sure why. It just wasn't fun anymore...

Just imagine what would happen if you combined ExciteBike, Blaster Master, Bionic Commando, and Scorched Tanks.
You're speeding downhill, blow a piece of rock out of the way, jump off a ledge, fly through the air with wheels spinning, fire a grappler into the cave roof, swing like Tarzan, disconnect and fall in an arc towards a cliff, and as you land the suspension nearly breaks, making the undercarriage grind against the cliff generating some neat sparks and a sound effects stolen from Stunt Car Racer. You jump out with Jason and plant a turret and some sensor arrays a'la Tribes.
