hi guyz quality work all around keep it up..:)
My question is based on photoshop DP [ digital paintings]
i have seen alota painting that are based around city scapes to metal objects that require a lot of straight lines.
i am using a wacom and just wondering how do you get the straight lines? that seem so perfect? [ unless ur using the line tool... which i do not understand how to use it so far :( ]
thanx for the help in advance :)
ps how do i post my work? dont worry i am a newbi so it sucks :)

I've been wondering that too.
if you wanna post your work, just upload it somewhere and use the [*IMG]URL OF IMAGE[*/IMG]
without the *
don't use geocitties.
(and you should have posted this in another section) ;)

well I dont have a WACOM board (:( ) but I do know that if you hold shift the lines are all straight (at least it works with the line tool I think)
Why not learning the photoshop techniques it would help.

honestly, the best way to do it is to just go through the web and find lots of tutorials....and just do them. also, set aside like....as much time as you can a day and just start fiddling around w/the software.
and always remember anything...ANYTHING you do is going to take time, patience, and lots of practice.
there are some tutorials here in the tutorial section. but also checkthese places and ask questions there too.
www.polycount.com
under the 2D/3d discussion area, there is a tutorial sticky thread. it has some PShop tuts in it.
also go here
http://www.gfxartist.com/ (www.gfxartists.com)
you can find tutorials there as well.
one thing to keep in mind. when you look at a lot of art websites such as these. you can always check the profiles of the posters. under those profiles there usually is a website from the artist. i have found that a lot of artists have tutorials on their websites.
good luck and just keep looking you will find the tuts you are looking for:chug:

thanx for the advice
yes you are right that patience is a big part in doing detail pieces of work..
back in the days i could spend couple of hours on art but casue i left that... now its hard regaining the patience and understanding :)
painting in photoshop is quite difficult becasue it is not like painting on paper :)
btw when ppl do digital painitings do they use one layer for the whole painting or different layers to add for example background to foreground?
thanx again sorry for the trouble and stupid questions,
i just ask them casue i am trying to get as much info as i can so i can shorten the learning curve :) and of course practice makes perfect :)

Hey man, I too have been wondering how people make so straight lines in PS. I wish there was some form of ruler that could be used with the wacom, and seen in the actual program.
Oh well, my way of solving this has been to draw the whole thing, roughly, on real paper, scan, and paint over in ps.
and hey, you live, you learn.

You can make straight lines while using any of the normal tools like paintbrush, airbrush, etc. Just tap your brush at a point on the canvas, then hold down the shift key, lift the brush and tap somewhere else. Instanst straight line.
