Hi. I just recently discovered this place and I like it.
I could really use some help with a couple of oil paintings that I can't seem to get any further on. I'm applying for art schools and I must be finished with these in a few days, so any comments/tips would help. I consider them about halfway finished.

The second one is supposed to be cheap/dramatic.

What do you think of the composition, colors and so on? Should I remove/add anything? Good/bad? What are your first thoughts when you see them? Thanks.

(Sorry for the bad photos, I tried my best)

the focus points - the faces and the dogs, i mean - are very well executed, but the loose renderings of the background and especially the boy's arms in the first one don't seem to fit...my 2 cents anyways :-/ wish I had some better crits! the faces and dogs are really excellent

Adam: Thanks. The parts you mention aren't finished yet. I don't know how to continue from here and those areas are the ones that I have the most trouble with.

these paintings are beautiful!! they are very absract color wise and content wise so its hard to give a traditional critique --its more like fine art than conceptart--so i think your voice is the one to listen to---

no glaring problems i can point ouit---you have a good technique going with your colors and brushwork- i would just hope that you push that as far as you can! what schools are you looking at? good luck!! ty

f*ck - thumbs up dude, follow whatever it is that's making you do images like this: originality is key, and in oil too!

tyboogie + Kress:

Thanks! That feels good to hear. Sometimes I lose sight of what my original idea was, and that's when I could use some help. But I'm really glad you like it!
