Swamp Critter

Had this design halfway done when I saw the DSG's swamp/marsh creature thread, so I figured I'd toss it in.

In terms of anatomy, I was merging viperfish, catfish and eels. I'm experimenting with some softer BG atmosphere while keeping the creature detail crisp, kinda cel style...any and all thoughts welcome!

that's really nice, but i'm not too sure about the background? i dunno it just looks weird to me. but man that seabeast is creepy!! wow nice pic. maybe he should maintain those spots down the rest of his back? just my two cents

nice picture Atomick:) but it kinda feels a bit like a 'drawing superimposed on a photo' if you get wat i mean.:p

as for the creature itself, maybe the bent part of the body between the head and the beginning of the fin is a bit too thick? like there is a hump? but thats just me, maybe it looks ok for everybody else.

but overall nice background and creature design.:)

Zakarian, Stikler - Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the BG was an interesting experiment, but it seems like it need to be tighter to match with the FG critter. Great food for thought! Might repost a new version someday...

Oh, and Zakarian, yeah, the neck _was_ supposed to be thicker behind the head to accomodate for the critter's maw, gullet, and esophagus, but it might be a tad too ambiguous. Good observation.

Fozzybar - Appreciate the kind words. I studied images of whales breaching for the water effects...and yeah, great referral to brasshorsekiller, whose creature design work is pretty killer! Reminds me of Geoff Darrow's work. BHK, if you're out there, keep up the great work...

hokey peets!!! that looks much better!!! now maybe some rocks or more texture? to the water? i dunno it looks kinda flat even though a big beasty just jumped out of it. not too much to the water, just a little so you don't take away from the monster
