Hey everyone. I've been working on designing a palace that has a futuristic edge to it, but doesn't look totally sci-fi. Here's some marker sketches of what I've got so far.

This is a small sketch, maybe 5" inches across. I did it rather quickly.

An overhead of the palace.

Here's a more finished concept. I am basing this palace on the Palacio de Comunicaciones in Spain. I like those Spanish palaces. Perspective I'm sure is off on this one as I was eyeballing it as I worked. I haven't gone back and checked it yet.

And a close up of one of those little gargoyles on it. :)

I think you've done well in fulfilling 'palace that has a futuristic edge to it, but doesn't look totally sci-fi' slightly Guadi without being obvious.

I think the 3rd picture is great, but would look so much better with some ground...it's a little floaty at the moment. I love the hollow tips to the outer towers on the 3rd one too. What about a small hint of blue in some of the shadows? also maybe some little black dots and stuff to show what the texture of the stone is like?

The first picture vaguely resembles the Justice Center (or whatever) from Judge Dredd. I dunno, maybe I'm just high. In fact, I'm quite sure I am. Sweet gargoyle, though!

Hey, thanks for the replies.

saturnfive: Yes, that's very true, it needs a ground. Guess I was just in a hurry to get the palace done. Well, that is easily added. And I do need to work on it's texture a bit more, too. Thanks for giving some suggestions. P.S. Checked out your site. Wooow, really great work there!

Swedish Chef: Hehe, Judge Dredd? Hmm, I haven't seen the movie in a while... must watch again. Glad you like the gargoyle.

The third one looks great!

The first one doesn't look to futuristic to me as it reminds me of something futuristic in the 60's, so it actually ends up looking older.

Just an idea... look at some recent skyscrapers... it'd be cool to see an incredibly tall palace...

Thanks Turokess :)
What about formal landscaping for your palace?, as a lot of them are approached through very formally laid out gardens (say Taj Mahal, or the Alhambra, for instance) just an idea.
