Ok, I just saw batman finally. It really was amazing. Thing is, now I am interested in checking out the comics. Now, I have never ever been a comic book guy, never owned a single comic book before. My understanding is that different people have taken certain characters, such as batman, and done their version of them. So I guess, I am asking which comics should I look at if I am interested in Batman.

"Year one," and "Long halloween," are some classic batman. They might be the same comic book "Year One, Long Halloween." Not sure, since Im so rusty.

I also heard that "No mans Land," was really good as well.

I would recommend

-Arkham Asylum (dave mckean art)
-Hush (jim lee art)
-Batman black&white(different artists/writers take on batman)
-Kelly Jones' run on Batman(dont know which numbers) was pretty cool too

there are probably a bunch of real cool ones I'm forgetting, but I cant think of them now... :$

I'd recommend "Return of the DarK Knight" by Frank Miller. The protrayal of Batman's character in this one is by far my favourite.

Definitive runs of Batman are:
Bob Kane/ Bill Finger/ Jerry Robinson from the early '40s
Denny O'Neil and Neil Adams from the early '70s
Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers from the late '70s
Frank Miller's the Dark Knight Returns (with Klaus Janson) and Batman: Year One (with David Mazzucchelli) from the mid '80s
Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's the Long Halloween and Dark Victory from the late '90s/early 00's

Also check out the animated series

You may want to check out "Batman: The Cult." It's got some great Bernie Wrightson artwork! Some of his best I think. For some more good artwork, check out Carlos Pacheo's run on Batman & Superman. It just finished up and the story was really good. I think the issues were #15 - 18.

Also, check out "Death in the Family." It has The Joker killing Robin. I'd say read this before you read "Hush." It will make more sense.

Apart from Frank Miller's classics, I'd also recomend Batman/Dredd combos : Die Laughing (with incredible painted art by Jim Murray) and Judgement On Gotham (with even more incredible art by Simon Bisley). I also liked The Doom That Came To Gotham - very interesting story by Mike Mignola (the Hellboy's father :) )

Jim Murray also paints an awesome Batman in Elseworlds: Batman Demon. Biz and Murray rule at painting the caped crusader.

Knightfall series and knightsend, but mainly knightfall. I really liked the story of Bane and him breaking Batman's back and seeing it all the way through to when Bruce recovers. I know these aren't comics but they do have a making of book for the movie and an artbook they're pretty good to read, did you see those?
