Prettymuch what it says. I have my scratch set at 100% and I followed the steps in the sticky (Keep Painter 6,7,8 running Smoothly) but even a pitifully small file (500x500 @ 150 dpi) is chugging with a measly gouache brush!

I'm on a G4 Powerbook with a 1.67 Ghz Processor abd I have 1 GB DDR for memory, so I am perplexed as to why this is.

Help!

yo, here's my guess, (i am not sure if this is the case...)

you might want to run spyware/adware programs (i don't know if there are any for Mac, 'cause i am now a PC user. however, i use Spyb@t S&D and Ad-aw@re), in order to find out whether or not if your computer is affected by those shity little bugs.

(you often get them through small search engines, porn sites and countless web-pages/e-mails. these ad/spywares can slow your computer down to a pathetically low speed, and some will even link your computer to unwanted web-site without the administrator's permission. in fact, some times they simply take over the control of your computer, and unfortunately, reformatting the hard drive seem to be the only way i know how to get rid of those scummy thing. =_=.)

p.s. i tried the painter 9 PC version, didn't like it when first tried, but i think i start to like it once i get to know it a little better... to me, it works well so far so good.

Good luck, and cheers. ^_^.

Hi willow,

Another couple of things you might try:

• In Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Painter IX > Preferences > General (Mac), uncheck the Enable Brush Ghosting box as displaying it uses memory.

• In the Brush Controls' Size palette, move the Feature slider to the right, until you find the happy medium between less dense bristles and faster brushstrokes.

I also have problems with Painter 9 being slower than Painter 8.

Even Undo's are slower.

That option is greyed out, how do I access it? I have that skittery brush issue as well and it's rather distracting.

Thanks :)

Hi Aussie,

If it's greyed out, it means the brush variant you're using can't use that brush control.

To learn which Dab Types enable the Feature control, open Painter IX Help > Help Topics. In the Options menu, click Search Highlight On, then go to:

Painter IX Help > Help Topics > Search tab

In the "Type in the word(s) to search for:" box, type "feature" (without the quotes).

Highlight the top item displayed in the "Select item" window, "Managing Settings and Controls" then click the Display button.

On the right panel, scroll down below the heading named "General Controls" and read the "Rendered Dab Types" and "Descriptions". You'll see the word "feature" highlighted several times, so read about those Dab Types.

Immediately below the list of Rendered Dab Types and Descriptions is a demonstration image showing "The effects of Feature on the stroke".
