Been working on skills lately, and I though I would post a couple that I liked. C+C more than welcome.

Girl pilot in #1? Nice pieces, but watch your perspective in that pink job- the spanwise lines are off- maybe your point is too close in? The upper (pilot's) right intake is off as well. I eyeball my perspective for most of my concepts, but plot or use a grid for tighter jobs. Photoshop CS2 has a great transform/warp feature that you can use to adopt a grid to any sketch, as well as fixing ellipses, etc. I'm diggin' your panel lines!

that's a great design in the first ship!
The second ship gets confusing behind the cockpit... the raised area on the top of the ship kind of blends in with the main body.

chukw- I definitely goofed the top right wing. They are not supposed to form a perfect "X", but it's still out of whack. I noticed the intake was off too, must have used the wrong ellipse angle (that will teach me to ink at 4am!).
glikster- I agree. I like the hull, but there does need to be more definition and contrast with the cockpit/fin area.
I'm going to keep refining these and will post progress. Thanks for the input peeps!

I'd agree, pretty solid concepts, if a little like most other far-future ship designs I've seen. Still waiting for the day someone posts a ship design that ISN'T streamlined - they don't need to be if they're in a vacuum, do they?
To really make these designs 'sing', or whatever the word is, I'd like to see some difference in the textures on the ships. There's a little bit of variation in the way you've painted the specularity, but currently both ships look like they're made out of a fairly uniform metal/plastic material. They certainly could be if that's what you want. But if they're a bit beat up like your dirt and pock marks suggest, maybe there's panels that have been replaced with a different metal in a hasty repair job, or maybe there's a load of soot around the engines which kills the shine - just to give some variation in the glints and texture.
Just a thought.
Never understood why people add those black perspective lines AFTER they've done the drawings, though. I know lots of industrial designers do it, and Doug Chaing does it on almost everything he does. I still never really saw the point. Doing them BEFORE to set your perspective, certainly, but why would you add them afterwards? Seems like spoiling a perfectly good drawing to me, though I'd be happy to be proved wrong if someone can come up with a use for them I seem to have missed...

haha..
I use persp after the fact too. Its an old Art Center habit. IMO, the designer is telling the viewer that they are looking at a sketch. Sometimes clients cannot tell the difference between a sketch (work in progress) and a painting (final concept). I have use them as subliminal markers to avoid misunderstandings.

Cool stuff! Reminds me of Chris Foss for some reason! :)

i donno, but i think some ships are streamlined because then they have a smaller cross section from the back and so they are harder to hit? I donno...
nice drawings too. they are really good.
