Greetings CA. I've been pretty much lurking for the past few weeks and thought it long time over due that I post something. Where better to start than to hide in here and ask for help? :3

The situation? I've been drawing/illustrating for the past few years and recently got tired with my one point perspective, pinup-like, boring poses. I'd been recently commissioned to do a stylized portrait (comic/manga) of a young woman who has a deep love for Japanese comics. Not a problem. I've done portraits and manga styled stuff before... However, when setting the scene it all went TERRIBLY WRONG. :nohope:

I'm attempting to have her sitting in an extreme foreshortened view, sitting with her leg dangling off a circular ledge/balcony. The other would be tucked underneath her. Lastly of the "important" parts - the almost cliché black wings sprouting from her back.

As of right now it's at the sketch and preparing transfer stage. I can't move the image to the final paper for inking and color until I get some of these perspective and anatomy issues worked out. "IT LOOKS SO WRONG IT MAKES ME WANT TO CRY!" *whimper*

I can see problems with both feet, and her arm... I just am not sure how to fix it. Maybe the ledge is completely off as well. I'm not exactly a regular at drawing more "healthy" figured females either. I just thought I'd turn to all of you.
Thanks for taking a look :3

Have you tried placing a 3-point perspective grid over this? It will definitely tell you if the ledge is working, as well as help you with the body foreshortenening.

agreed, extend the canvas.
put in vanishing points
you can always crop in later.
using that grid will help a lot before jus trying to do it out of your head.
i jus whipped this paint over up really quick in ps.
i changed the pose a little.
i think the foot in the water is really distracting so i got rid of it.
it's really weird for her to sit that way.
circulation cut off?!

Thanks all for your help so far… To bad I can’t start working on it again right now *laughs*
The image shown is of the cropped canvas. I tend to work large and before uploading anywhere I size down and then cut out most of the white space…border… area… The grid method used was the one where you draw a box around the area, put equally spaced lines on each end, and then connect. (forgets the real name >.>) I tend to have a particular problem with curves in perspective though. :3
In any case, I’ll pop a grid over it again and size down the spaces in-between to see if it can be a little more accurate…’

Afterthought – Yes it would be weird of her to sit that way … but she’s not exactly planning on staying there for long. You can think of it as being on the edge of a bunk bed – balancing on one knee and the other leg extended towards the floor… and then hurlling your body forward to let gravity take its course. (difference here being that she’s got /wings/ and won’t go crashing into the pavement. Tra-la-le XD)

If I don’t give up against my deadline and start a new one, I’ll update later.
Thanks!

Fighting against the head and the eye…
