i am doing another master copy for my class...so i thought i would shoot a process to show everyone. i start with a charcoal underdrawing. then fix it. then you go in with 3 different reds for the light side, then 3 different yellows ontop of that. for the shadows you start with blue/green and then put umber ontop. then you start getting lighter and lighter in color. i will finish it tomorrow. damn, i think i liked step 3 better than 4....oh well.

ink: thanks! um, im not really sure how long it took, probably about 3 hours. this is a master copy of frederic leighton, i think he was around in the 1800's. so i went to the ARC museum page and downloaded a high res version of one of his paintings.

I buyd pastels from Faber Castell, and I canīt work from dark to light with them like you do. Can you tell me which ones you use - it would really, really help me.

robulus: thanks man! i use the rembrandt soft pastels. you should check on whether or not you have soft or hard pastels. the hard ones i use are nupastels and i just use those for detail work. most of the time i just use the soft pastels though. hope that helps you out!

What's Daarken I was woundering if you have any suggestions on a cool paper to use for a master copy. I have been thinking of doing a Rembrant or Monet still life.
Any tips? This will be my first attempt in Pastels.

Thanx Daarken I realized that you had already stated the kind of paper so I went out yesterday and bought some and some canson also. So I will see what happens. I want to do a still life master copy of a painting I have seen. It is a set up with peaches and drapery. I just don't remember who painted it. I am a lil scared of doing a portrait as a beginner since this is an assignment for school. But I might play around with one at home.
Thanks dude

amador: awesome, that is looking good. i would just say add some more transition values and soften up the lines on your cheeks and the hair as well. just smudge them. i would also pop in some highlights as well. and make the teeth darker and less visible as they go back into your head. great job though!

Thanks Daarken I used only about 8 different colors and they were all soft, The photo is not all their but i see what you mean. I thank you for inspiering me with your work. I just yeasterday visited your web site and i saw some awsome work. I didn't realized that you were a Frazetta fan I don't know if you noticed that in that same link I posted a wa'na be Frazetta master copy, it was a school assignment and I took it lightly.
