Well the guy isn't exactly drop dead hilarious but when he answered those three calls... I couldn't stop laughing for an hour. It wasn't really his comedy skills that made this great (although it helped) it's that the ppl on the other line were too thick to get it.

It's easy to laugh this off and say that folks who think like these telephone reps are about as organized or respected in the US like the KKK... (hell, I was in stitches for some of their replies)

...but the thing is yeah, these people, no matter how few, are dead serious. That, to me, is pretty damn scary.

i dunno if christians in america have an overall different interpretation/application of Biblical doctrine than that of australians.. either way it sounds a little "gnashing of teeth, fire and brimstone" kinda stuff. my stance on homosexuallity is one of "love the sinner, hate the sin", and yet i am a person of strong Christian belief.

your sexual tendancies do not define you as a person, and so i look past to see the heart of the individual as opposed to stopping at the outward appearance and settling on an arrogant and intollerant generalisation of "gay's and homo's". i do not agree with their practices, yes, but i do not condemn them. im no saint but i certainly try my best to keep an open mind with such things (note: this is not compromise).

also, im sure a majority of you would see the inherant wrong in child pornography. theres no two ways about it. such a thing should not exist, especially when considering the extreme (and long lasting) mental and physical damage forced upon those who are subject to such acts.

so keep in mind that, whilst these phone calls are amusing in places, a lot of what was said was either taken out of context or twisted in meaning (done so knowingly by the comedian).

I'm not really a religious man but i thought using the name of god to get profit out of it isn't 100% christian either.

I don't mind gay people as long as they act normal.

from what i was aware, profit goes to ministry, which loosely means helping those in need, eg. shelters, support groups, chaplaincy programs, etc. i see nothing wrong with that.

There are many different kinds of "Americanized Christianity," as you call it.
A whole range exists--it's just more amusing to make fun of the "fundies," I guess.
Be careful about stereotyping a whole group, especially by comparing them to the KKK--that wouldn't be a very "Christian" thing to do, now, would it? (Sorry, I couldn't resist putting that last bit in. :) )

Anyways, I think those people in the phone calls really believed most of what they were saying, but I also think they were at some level thinking, "Ok, I've obviously got a crazy on the phone here, but I'll just agree with him because he seems interested in this deal . . . ." They are being hired to do a job, after all.

Pretty funny overall--I laughed and also felt a little scared at the same time.
