hows the best way to get crisp scans without the texture of the paper overpowering the picture? anyone? ive tried with numerous settings but can never get the quality i see in everyone elses scans (even with my new scanner). :S total noob question but to be honest ive hardly ever used scanners..

Scan an example.
A scanner should not scan the grain or texture of the paper.....unless it's really bad paper.
Art is a 'visual' medium, and so is your question.

Sounds like your using a really grainy piece of paper, or your smearing your medium around alot. When I scan I usually have the settings on pretty low contrast so that Im not missing any of the sutble values, so I get that sometimes too. I also tend to be alittle messy with blurring my pencils. I just use the levels in photoshop to remove any grain or pencil ghosts that show. This usually works well for me. Otherwise use a less textured piece of papyrus.. :^^:

thanks guys. every sketchbook i get these days is cartridge paper, which is a heck of a lot more textured than your regular copy paper. i personally dont enjoy drawing on it, but i havent had any time whatsoever to search for a good sketchbook. ill scan and post and example when i can. thanks again :)
