Well the sketch is a good start I suppose.
I would work on values though.

All I can see, is that you are using some kind of filter effect structure brush to get some kind of effect.
I am a beginner myself, but I can tell you that I have done some value studies, and it really helped a lot.

Prometheus|ANJ wrote a pretty good tutorial on color and value on this site

clicky here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3148)

I would check that out. It helped a lot for my coloring.
Another thing is, try to observe the stuff that is going on around you.

When I am getting home from school, sitting in the train, I use to watch reflections and lighting in cars, and trees etc... I hope you did understand what I was trying to say.
I wouldn´t rely on those texture brushes in the beginning, they tend to distract a lot!

Hope this is of some help to you!

its not a brush.
after doing the color job, i dirtied him up in ps with layers of dirt...

maybe i'll post a version without the textures.

i joined this forum because i saw people giving hints and tips to artists that wanted to improve their artwork.
very few people have commented on my work...
i want help.
i need help.

is it just cause no one knows me yet? cause im new?

well, im not giving up. feedback or not, im gonna keep posting and hope that someone will comment. even if its just to tell me to go away.
then maybe i'll consider leaving this site. (even though i really dont want to)

Heya, I'm new here too but I try to give back as much positive feedback and crits as I can, because I know how it is to want to get good critiques, and to want to learn.

Well, I'm not too familiar with coloring yet, but from what I see you need to get a firm definition of your colors. After you find out what colors you want to use for which parts of the pilot, use value to shade, [i.e. different darknesses of the same color instead of just black.] And be sure to have consistent light sources.

The pilot seems alright, you just gotta get rid of that filter you used and work on shades/value and contrast.

Hope that helped.

Hi complete2,
Well I like yours, but it is a bit difficult to give you any coloring crits right know, because I can't tell from your sketch where you want to go yet. I know my own color studies are not very clear to anyone else but me, so I guess you have to give us a bit more to go from.
But your light source should be more clear. Evrything has the same value, the shadows on the face are to vague.
Still a here a my thoughs on the pencil lines of the face. the proportions feel right, but if you want to go more realistic, then I think that the mouth and the nose should be wider. you should also add some details, the nose is missing nostrils...
Hope it helps, and lets see the final result soon!
