see that's the thing about doing something like a self-portrait a day. you can get over those probs by working everyday. the more you work the more you train your eye to "catch" things when they look right and wrong. so keep it up and keep posting.:p remember, as jason manley and most other professional artists, say "look, look, look". it's a very important part in drawing. always study what you are drawing.....let your eyes soak up the shapes then transfer them to your paper. but remember it's important to look a lot WHILE you are drawing. whatever you do, if you enjoy it, don't stop:D keep going:chug:

Few coments on the last one. (i'm no better but it might help )
Try to watch your proportions - do this by placing land marks - "from the left corner of my right eye to the right corner of my left eye is about... this much! Now.. from the middle of the line between my eyes to the peek of my nose is about... one and a half eye size length or so. Etc etc"
Also - you have used your hair lines to shape your face - try to shape it with justr one line (hard stuff).
Simplify your face - draw rectanles for your eyes and lips. Try a low-poly aproach - it will help a lot!

good to see more of you net:chug:
one thing jason manley talked about a lot was blocking shapes. try looking at yourself in the mirror. then only use a white, gray(grey...whatever:p ), and a black. then pick out those three shapes on your face and draw them. once you start doing this accurately....your eyeballs will then recognize smaller shapes of different value.
it's all about training those damn eyeballs of ours:D
keep em coming:chug:

Monday, 4:40 am - office. Memo: I reply to this post!
:chug: Welcome back
Nice one - It's not very realistic but it has an expresion and it reflects a character. I can see shapes starting to form, a lot of work put into it and free color. (slow computer too :)) Very nice.
But... :D you have to LOOK LOOK LOOK. Pay more atention to it. You didn't watchd enough!
Reload.. fire!

what's up net? i agree w/ob. these are better though. and the most important thing right now(besides blocking shapes and recognizing values)is just to keep going. don't stop. push, push, push and magical things will start to happen.
yeah like ob said post on the guest thread. hell man, post in both. it's great to see all the ports in one thread. but posting on the main guest SP section will probably result in more feedback.
i see some nice things happening in your recent ones.
keep it up:chug:

You are improving VERY nicely! Well done!
You still have problems on proportions - look, look, look - measure.
Then, if you've got the proportions right.. do this :
http://www.afantana.home.ro/thenetbox.jpg
(this is yours with cutout effect)
I mean, paint the big light and dark areas, with only few values!
Keep pushing! :D

your proportions do look a lot better in this one. but what i like the most is how you handled the lighting. it looks right to me which means your eyes are becoming more trained, more focused on shapes and things.
keep it up netbox. good things are waiting for you around every portrait....even the ones you don't like.:chug:
