Well Ive been lurking forever it seems like, and Ive decided that its actually time to post something for you all to see.

Ill tell you a little about my self. Im 17, my name is Lance Harrison and I live in Oregon, in the United States. Im hoping to go to school here in a few mounths and take some art classes at the local community collage. I have been drawing ever since I could remember and I tought my self how to draw mostly.

Ive shot threw severel phases in my life in the terms of art. At one point I wanted to be a animator, then a comic book illustrator, then something along the lines of 3D. Now I just want to draw and paint and hopfully it will lead it self somewere for me.

Okay now for the good stuff!! (Hopfully these will show up, been a while since Ive done this)

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/New%20Sketches/Anatomysketch-3.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/New%20Sketches/AnatomySketch-4.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/New%20Sketches/AnatomySketch-2.jpg

Mostly random things in each picture, no real renders. I like to work really loose. Ive done everything here by memory, no reffs. All done on my Wacom.

Plz crit the hell outta these, I like being crituqed. Gives me more direction ;)
Let me tell you something I wouldnt be nearly as good as I am with out being hard on my self or taking crits.

Ill try and post daily here so, there will be more on the way. Photobucket seems to only give out 250mb of space on a free account, not that much. + they dont allow nudity :bashful: had to earase some things from the above to make it acceptable to Photobucket. Ill have to seach around for a better source to upload my pictures. Any ideas would be sweet (Ill even pay if its cheap enough)! Thanks for the looks, untill next time my fellow crusaders!

anyways, good stuff, now show us some more traditional stuff.. maybe some life drawings, that's what i prefer to judge someone's "skill"

oh.. and maybe you could pop by my sketchbook and leave a comment, i would be honored :bashful:

Do you have any finished sketches?
Alot of a sketchbook is study, but alot of it is also finished pieces or almost completed ideas. I would like to see some finished work in your sketchbook, maybe some with value?

But great work with the anatomy. Where are you planning on going to college? I am also on the journey between Highschool and College. (UARTS in the fall.)

Well its seems that I lied about making this thing an every day thing. But I was sick, and didnt feel like drawing at all. So I just browsed these forums from time to time, posting like a bad boy.

stewart one - Thanks :)

ChaoticKnight - Adding value to my peices Ive always struggled with, and I adviod it with out thinking about it. Im still learning :\

Im planing on going to a Local collage first, and take some life classes. Than on day go to OSU [Oreagon State University] But Im still a little hazy on what exactly Im going to do.

Well I was able to scrounge up some of my older sketches that I happend to have laying around my room. So hopfully this will make up for the lost time that I uhh ... Lost.

Done about a year ago, inspired by the Queen Amadala (SP?) art from one of the recent "Art of Starwars." Books, I belive the 2nd. Tryed to refine my clothing skills. Still not vary good at it :\

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/New%20Sketches/Sketch15.jpg
Finally something I did just a couple hours ago. This isnt really the kind of style I would like to produce, but it seems like the only style that comes out of the end of my pencil :er: .

Most of my stuff is done with no reffs. Since I draw in my room around 4 in the morning. I dont like to work off pictures, I feel vary uncomfertable when I do so.

Vary large update, I hope you all will enjoy it! BTW dont forget to Crit my work! Untill next time ...

Well, I dont have anything new, but I did find something I decided to share with you all. Its from a year ago or so.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/BobaFett_1.jpg

Its Boba Fett The Bounty Hunter from StarWars, as if it needed to be said

Lack of replies isnt surprising by all means, but I figured that its probly due to the BIG sketches that Ive never resized. Im going to resize them for the sake of us all ;)
But on anouther note, I do have some NEW sketches that Im going to be posting here in a few days, just to lazy to scan. Until then, let the force be with you ...

I like the stylized sketches in your first two postings. They look a little bit comic-stylish. :)
As Iīm not sure, if you want to develop your cartoon style or become more naturalistic Iīll crit the tree. I think my comment fits for both.

Try to leave a light area in the middle of the tree and get darker to the left and right end. That way it would look more 3-dimensional and not so flat. Just think about rendering a tube. You can even achive that with the texture of the tree as well, so wouldnīt have to cross-hatch if you donīt like that.

Hey thanks for your comment, its nice to hear some one actually likes my doodles!

Heres something Ive put together last night while looking at some Reffreance pictures. Not really accurate, but I just wanted to mess with it a bit.

I drew this up last night just for some kicks and giggles, no reffs. I dunno I just recently got interested in Native Americans, I have no good reffs to draw off from, so I just doodled what I thought might be somewhat accurate.

If anyone has any good sites on the get-ups for Native Americans then that would be awsome

Ps. I know what Google is ...

Aloha JARhead,
I'm posting in yours since you posted in mine. First thing, your anatomy kicks ass! I'm gunna work hard at mine but won't be as good as yours. And i really like the "random heads" especially the Wolverine one, i love X-Men. And the Darth Vader one kicks ass too! I haven't really got any crits sorry, but just one word of advice, keep up the great work! :^^:

In the post from August 5th there is something in left face. I think that the right half of the jar should be a little bit more to the left. Or the eyes could be some mm more to the right. Than it would be perfect.

With the other ones: no crits.
Well, maybe one crit: why donīt you post more from your stuff like the first posts? The style is really sexy :)

the first sketches were much better! (at least some parts of them...) ... But these last ones... what's wrong?! Get back to the line in the first post...

Stop shadding so much - that tree looks dirty! That doesn't ever looks like a tree 2 me...

hope to see better work :) I'll keep an eyes on your thread! I see great potential here, but you need advices ;) (and not the " oh, yeah!! you rock!! that's fucking great!")

Some really honest advice, its what I want. Yeah Im not vary good at shading all that well, Ill work on it some more, but quite frankly shading makes me uncomfertable at times. Probly cuz I have no idea what Im doing.

I know how shading works but, the presshure needed to produce the right shades gets me going crazy, kinda hard to explian.

broken lizard

Its seems like your not the only one who likes my Wacom drawings a lot more than my regular pencil drawings, and I think its becaouse of the style I produce when I use the wacom. Ill do some more sketches with the Wacom tonight for sure, and post them tomorrow hopfully.

The reason I tend to stay away from my Wacom is becaouse Im not as loose as I want to be compared to my pencil, so things take twice as long as the would. I also tend to be imaginitivly dumb when Im on my Wacom for some reason.

Not a Digital Sketch, but anouther pencil sketch ... I might actually finish this one for a change. Actually add color, so I guess Im going to use this thread as a WIP.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/Lance_H/New%20Sketches/Knife_Native.jpg

His right arm seems to be uncomferatble, and unnatural, and his sholders seem to be the same way. The sholders also need to be more broad, the way they are now makes his head too big.

Any advice on this would be splended, and well taken, dont hold back.

I will eventually add more details as I go along, but I want more feedback on his posture and such, befor I go in there with more detail.

Thanks for the replies!

well anyways I hope some one can shead some insight on the way I paint. If someone could give me a few tips that would be nice. So Im going to post a few steps I took while painting this creature of sorts.

Some of your sketches are too light. I can bearly see them. The ones I can actually see are not bad. You have some some cool sketches :) I love the eyes of your girl face. Just be carefull with the size of your heads, you seem to be drawing them very big. Usually, the head is about the same size than the foot. And the total height of a "normal" human can vary from 7 to 8 heads. Study about anatomy and proportions (we hear that a lot but it's very important to understand the basics).

Keep drawing everyday and you'll see major improvement :confident

Pesmerga

Too light, eh? Thanks for telling me, Ill try and darken up my sketches a bit more befor I post them for now on.

I think the reason I draw my heads a tad big is becaouse I draw it last for somereason. I always hear that you should draw the head first, but most of the time I tend to skip around to parts that I want to draw :\

Simi90

#1 Fan, eh? I dunno if Im as good as you say I am, I have some major flaws with my work.

Well how to practice? You already answered it your self Practice, Practice Practice. I found it good to study other peoples sketches and drawings, and see how they approach the sketches.

Copying peoples things to the key I feel might be cheating yourself, since in the end you start to draw more like them, then drawing with your own style. I dunno, thats what always happend to me, but Ive heard some people having some good success at doing this. Lot of info around this site that you can read up on, on this vary subject. Good luck to ya!

Thanks for the replies guys!

Well today Im going to go and take a placement test for school. So Im up early for a change. I was up drawing last night, probly not the best thing to do befor a test, but I really have no worries about it.

Hi Jarhead,

Great work, and I admire the amount of drawing you're doing & posting. I think you have strong skills at inventing figures and drawing out of your head, which is hard for me to do. Your first sketches, of line-anatomy & hands, are very sensitive, and it looks like you could draw just about any pose or gesture. But other drawings after this point don't demonstrate the same sensitivity. A lot of your poses are stiff, frontal views, without the gesture or contraposto of those first line drawings.

Once you get into art school and start drawing more figures from life, the gestures and poses of your characters should improve.

I think you're going to be the shit, just keep going. Its the desire to improve and willingness to work at it that makes great art.
