Whoops, I seem to have accidentaly put this thread into the wrong forum (Sketchbooks) so I suppose I'll re-start it here. If a moderator sees the one in the other forum, feel free to delete that one.

Done with a number 2 pencil in about 35 minutes and slightly cleaned up w/ Photoshop, maybe an hour total, give or take a peepee break.

It my first real foray into drawing human faces or anything like this. I'm usually a photo manip kind of guy and I'm not really use to pencil & paper. It more or less just to get some sense of what it's like.

I think shading is thing I have the hardest time with, as well as some of the lines (left side of nose, maybe) but this is a first for me, to be able to draw a person at least in the same realm as the reference shot.

Next, I'll try female, see how that goes. BTW, I'm a dead ringer for Qui-Gon in RL, lol. C&C are most welcome. :) I need to know what to focus on in future attempts.

Not bad for one of your first pencil/paper attempts. Sadly it doesn't really look like Qui-Gon's face; Liem Neeson's got a real long kinda nose, a little more narrow and not quite as bulbous as what you have here. The beard and the hair are pretty accurate though, and the shading isn't that bad. It looks like you've got a solid grip on things, I'd just work on bringing out more detail in faces and hair to make your stuff look more realistic.

Not too shabby! You did a pretty good job here.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
1. proportion- the eyes should be in the middle of the head
2. eyes- they aren't really that shape, study them
3. ears- draw some ears from a bunch of different views
4. hair- use highlights to accentuate the volume of the hair. Drawing each hair isn't necessary.
5. Keep drawing!

The nose and mouth are pretty good, but the mustache is in the way of the lips so it's hard to tell. Draw friends and out of magazines. Try using cross-hatching to add shadow instead of smudging with your finger.
