DISCLAIMER: I do manga art only. Expect realism here and you'll be quite disappointed.

Old, no ears, no hair to cover where they would be....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/DenimCat/carriesketch2.png

Less old, eyes are huge, face is triangle, pose impossible.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/DenimCat/matsucolorresized.jpg

Legs are mutantly long.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/DenimCat/keiaani010.jpg

Torso freakishly long, no hips. (it's supposed to be this sketchy)

To see more current art, start reading my webcomic at kagetoodoru.keenspace.com. (The first image on the site is a mistake to be removed soon, the third was scanned horribly. Beyond that, I have no excuses)

I try to update on wednesdays and saturdays, though right now checking on thursdays and sundays would get you farther. ^_^U After checking it out, you can leave a comment or rate me at my account here (http://thewebcomiclist.com/p/3320/Kage-to-Odoru), etc.

Thus ends old art dump and shamekess plug.

If you're in any way serious about art. You NEED to practice traditional, realistic stuff. You need the anatomy practice. Everyone who has ever done anime professionally, has spent thier time doing traditional stuff.

We use to learn to colour inside the lines.

We use to learn to colour inside the lines.

That was intentional. :er:

I'll post newer stuff later.

Like Interceptor said, except I'll take it further. If that's how you feel about art, don't bother posting or asking for crits. No matter how good you get with your manga, you will always be lacking in the fundamentals. You need to know real anatomy before you can distort it and fit it to your chosen style or medium, otherwise it will always be apparent you don't.

Trust me. I always knew this, but figured I'm good enough as it is. I thought like you, in a way. "I do comicboook art only, why should I care about realism?" and thought I'd learn everything I needed to learn by drawing from my head and reading tons of comics. And my art did not improve a notch. Sure, my digital painting 'skills' got 'better' (I could work faster, and grasp some things better), but the lightning was still off. The forms of the underlying pic were still off. It's all about the basics.

That's why I'm here. To work on the mundane stuff that will get me moving from the place I've been at the last few years. I can only hope you come to see the same. Don't treat art as just a hobby (i.e. something you do to pass time in a fun way), treat it as a neverending learning experience... that is fun, but also needs to be mundane sometimes. :)

To just say you only do anime and not to expect realistic stuff will in no way cover up up the fact that you lack fundamental drawing skills. Like Interceptor said, you need to learn to draw realistically before doing anything else. While this might look okay to you, a professional will notice everything that is wrong instantly. I'm not trying to be mean, but I am being very honest with you so that you can hopefully go and work in the proper direction.

Aremah - Well, I'm improving without the realism. Even my stuff from february looks bad now.

jfwalls - It doesn't look okay to me. I specifically noted what was horribly wrong with each of these old drawings.

Anyway, new thing from today, it's sketchy and smudgy but I like the feel.

Please understand, that I am REALLY not trying to just be mean to you here.
But your stuff now does'nt really look good either. I know you'rem still young and all, but until about a year or two ago I had the same mindset as you and I am really paying for it now. I just want to make sure you don't make the same mistake that I did, as of now, I have so many bad habits from only drawing anime style that any kind of artistic career for me looks very bleak.

Go looks at some of the forums, there are links for anatomy tutorials and stuff everywhere. And if you're not really serious about art. Than you may as well just stick to deviantart comments or something because people WILL hassle you about this alot. Trust me.. I know from experience.

Hmm, Denimcat.. I'm not seeing much of a difference between your older sketches and the one you just posted. It's obvious you don't know a thing about anatomy.. or a whole lot else here either. If you want to draw better, study realistic art. We're not kidding here. You'll probably get somewhat better if you keep doing what you're doing, but you'll never draw as well as you could and you'll never be a professional. There are very few jobs for exclusively manga artists out there, and 99% of those are in Japan.

This stuff is exactly like a what thousands other 14 year olds are doing. Because so many people do it, it's that much harder to stand out. And sorry, but you just won't do it this way. Don't kid yourself into thinking you can get away with it. Nobody can.

This isn't to say you shouldn't draw! You obviously have a love for it, which is the most important thing. You don't even have to stop drawing anime period.. just try realistic stuff more. You'd be surprised how it'll help.

I know I probably won't get to do this as a career.

I'd like to ask what makes people think I'm young...?

New stuff later...

(I observe with amusement that deviantart is apparently looked down upon here... hehe... XD)

I'd like to ask what makes people think I'm young...?

Because of the way you draw and your attitude, of course.
And the lined paper.
How old are you?
