Here is somehting I finished today, it was all done in Painter. Spent a little longer than normal polishing this one... I hope I didn't overdo it.
Comments always welcomed and encouraged.

indeed it does look as thought you thought about this dude for a while. kudos on the evil look on his face, very creepy with the pointy ears.
and that grin. :)
but particularily i like the armour he is wearing,
a solid piece indeed..

It´s fine looking piece. But there´s a huge ...ahem...mistake about it. From the angle we´re looking at that (cool evil looking dressed in absolutely kewl garb) we wouldn´t be able to see the top of the wall like you drawn it. Sorry. It looks wrong to me. Maybe not to tohers.
But the guy looks nice. But what is he and what´s with the flag in the background? Is that a pro or contra war piece or nothing at all?

Crit:
His left arm... For the bicep to be forward like that, the lower arm would have to be turned clockwise to where the gun was viewed from the top.
The top of the wall is really flat. use some prospective lines. You'll realize that you would need to see less of the back of the wall. so that its suggested, but not painted.
The cloth on his shirt is really... to tight. if he moved it would rip.
His right shoulder would not be hidden by his chest.

I really like this pic, nice combination of comic book and painterly style. I think the figure is a lot stronger than the background though, which is rather flat.
cool though!

Great concept!, and I like your style. On small comment is that the top of the wall needs a bit of texturing....

thanks for the feedback all,
coma.
you are right, his arm is twisted a little extremely. I like the wall, the top of the wall isnt flat, but rather chiseled and blown out at an angle, so you would see the top. I'm going to leave it. The cloth on his shirt is supposed to be ultra tight because it looks cool and comic booky, and makes him look bad ass. I will take another look at the shoulder, but it looks ok to me.

Since so much attention has been given to the dude in the front to make him look fancy and cool and the background with the flag is totally wrong in perspective, it doesn't make sense if you say this is con war. As for pro war... I only see too much video shooting games and ignorance.

awesome painting man. I must disagree with many of you out there, this piece is about the character not the detail in the wall. any more detail would take away from this. Some might complain about the subject matter, blaming video games for problems in the world will get you nowhere.:ak47: :ak47:

Holy crap... "I only see too much video shooting games and ignorance." Well seeing as how Blackarts works in the video game industry it seems fitting. It's just a fun fantasy painting! It's not a statement about the things going on in the world today. Can't people see that??? If he wanted to make a statement I don't think he would've used a Demon with long horns and a skirt... a badass skirt too boot.
:D
Sorry, done ranting. Daryl I already told you what I think about this piece. But I must add that I do like your last two or three better. Something that you had in the other two aren't in this piece. I think it might be the energy. The two angel paintings are my favs. Anyways, lets do some  this weekend.

it looks rad,
however you did over do it, its too kate to go back do my sugestion would be to take it over the top, all the textures feel like they are made out of the same material, they all share a similar specullarity, it would be mice to see more variets like shinny steel, slick skin, rough fabrig, grity dirty armour.
besides that I really like it, I love your website too, great work

Dude. It isn't a photograph... I mean let's not get too obsessed with realism to the point where no stylization is allowed. To me these crits would be analogous to looking at an anime and saying 'the eyes are too far apart'...
As far as I can see, the anatomy, clothing (and tightness thereof) etc. look perfectly consistent with the comic book style he's gone for. I like the pic a lot.

I bought a Maya book with your image on it! Cool. The art on your site is great. No crits from me :).

... He was going for humanoid and made a few mistakes. I wasn't attacking him or his work, it was a crit, for the sake of him. If you really think the anatomy is level with a humanoid, you need to do some studying.
Don't flame me for trying to help him out.
as far as the shirt goes I just thought it would look better if it didn't look like it was painted directly on his skin.

thanks, this is all very valuable feedback.
Coma and Android, both of you guys have made good points. I plan to revist this painting when I have time, and I'll try to incorporate these suggestions.
sketch, beer sounds mighty tasty.
btw, this isn't supposed to be some kind of political statement....just a badass demon guy with some guns. The flag is there to add coolness and an interesting graphic element.

HAHA!!!! HELL YEAH!!!
I like the tight rendering on the figure I think you need to carry that into the BG it's too soft and looks out of place. Also, his head is pushed back a bit too far it looks awkward.
