I need to read up on famous painters like zorn sorolla, sargent etc. and their paintings. Problem is that I have limit money and a incredibly crappy library on art, but fortunately i found 10 books on norman rockwell :confident .

For example, john singer sargent, I search amazon, I find like 10 books and I simply cant choose. Please recommand some!

As for which artists, please stick with people like sargent, rubens, Hals etc. People who loved their art, nature and remained HAPPY! this is the most important part, i don't currently want to read about people who spent their life in misery and saddness.

Thanks a whole bunch, by the way I already looked through the book thread in this forum before posting.

P.S. I prefer something of a biographical nature, showing both the art and telling the guy's life.

for sargent get "sargent -the sensualist"
there is also another book on jss, I don't know what its called but it you go to www.jssgallery.org, they should have a book that has like a light blue border and it has cropped picture of sargent's painting.

I'd would really suggest franz hals because in order to really capture his painting technique, you'd have to go up close and personal to it. Perhaps you can study some pics of velaquez's work from the internet.

hope this helps.

You could try - heaven forbid - (gasp) the library! -lol -seriously if you are near a large University you should have acess to a lot of info and most school libaraies will let you use thier facilities .- you did not include your location in your post so I cant be more specific.
