hi,
yesterday, i finished this drawing:
http://www.polycount.com/cottages/gekitsu/pimp/rustywings_web.jpg
it's ~6x8 (paper was a bit larger but i ended up cutting some edges off it).
mediums used were ink (brush pen for some texture effects in the rust wings and girl outlines, 0.2mm tech pen used for mechanical parts) and conté sepia.
gotta love sepia... a wondeful brown hue that becomes warmer when you smear it.
i spent about half a day on it, not counting lots of pose and wing concepts.
as for the cheesy lines i wrote on it:
it's a drawing i did for a former classmate of mine - she asked me to make an autograph and send it to her.
since that whole terminator 3 contest thing, some of my friends treat me like i'd be a superstar, so that is behind that asking-for-autographs and writing-cheesy-lines-on-them.
c&c highly appreciated

nice. I love spindly gawky machinery that's thin like digits.

looks cool...just can't believe you spent half a day on it. (seems kinda long?)
well...i suck at these things so I guess that's just me...
I like her pose...
She's so sad, but still full of strength.
I'm kinda waiting for her to turn her head, with a dark and furious look on her face, and fly away...
Hi Geki, by the way...I always wanted to check out these forums...

gray & kress: thanks
saladbowl: thanks :) welcome to the forums.
i thought it to take less time, too but filling all the detail and texture on the few larger areas took me longer than i intended to.
plus working some back and forth with the conté...

one note.....the stance of the wing(straight and stiff) doesnt complement the mode and feeling of the girl. if it was droopy, the impact would have been bigger....
but it could be the contradiction of feelings you're after..:D

Personally, I like the contradiction of a "soft" female figure and hard machinary. Great work.
I think dramatic lighting would help lots though.

Good conxept and I really like the linework at the girl - simple and fluid.
Do I sense some Bengal influence? ;)

goo: i agree. on the other hand, wouldn't the wing look less "strong" if folded or let hung or anything like that?
"when i take time to design that f***ing wing, i'll draw it in a way one can see it" ;)
juice: thanks. i paid some extra attention to expression of material in the linework. seems like it paid off :)
fipse: thanks, mate :)
i guess it's some bengal influence in terms of sweet little girls & emotions (at least i try the latter...) and some coro influence in the ink work.

Very nice calligraphic-like strokes on the girls body. It has nice contrast too. The first thing it made me think of is Luis Royo's angels .. although this is very different from his style it has that same theme of metallic vs flesh. Quite nice with the brown tones.

It definetly packs an emotional punch. I love the way you made the wings. I copied this one to studie, I hope you don't mind. Thanks for posting.
