This is my first serious go at trying to "paint" in photoshop. The end product, with any luck, will be this dark/vampiric? ballerina. I'd say I'm about half way through at this point. I thought I would post it here to see if anyone had any thoughts/suggestions/crits/etc. Any and all would be very much appreciated

looking good so far, i like your color choices. Things that are bothering me tho are mainly the neck, seems too big, or the head is a bit misplaced. Also, the chest area is confusing me, the shadows cast by the arms seem wrong, i cant make out whats going on there hmm...Perhaps youll also work abit on her lips, try making them abit more feminine. Good going

I think the green legs pull attention from up top but I can't tell because the resultion is twice what my screen is.

I'd say the right (her right) arm is a little bit too short. And it looks very masculine.
Try posting a smaller version too, cause it's hard to get a view of the whole picture right now (at least for me, since I have a small screen). I'm not sure about the proportions, but her legs might be a bit to big. Still hard to say because of the resolution.
Nice work, keep it updated now! :)

She has big hands and a big head. The arms are masculine ans mentioned.
And also, I assume you took a pretty freaking long time on this. There is and easier way to do it that takes much less work and time, and its easier to fix your mistakes before you get too far.
Draw out the figure, tthen fill in the body with solid colors, then add the darker colors where the shadows are, still solid though. when all of the porportions and shadows and colors look corect, THEN you can come in with the blurring and opaque brushes, etc.
Ill just mention the a lot of people also do the whole piece of work in black and white, then through a simple process in photoshop they color it in when they get it right, THEN do the other small details.

Great, thank you everyone for your thoughts and comments thus far. They've all been quite helpful and I'm currently seeing to fixing the drawing. I'll put up a new version in a bit.
Of course, it's a bit too late to follow JokingClown's advice, but that will be something very handy to know in the future.
Thank you again, everyone.

The original image has been updated with my progress thus far. I tried fixing the size of the head (the hair specifically), the arms, and the chest. I also made the background an obnoxious orange so that the values and highlights would be clearer for the time being. I'm hoping this resolution will be easier for everyone to read. Apologies for not thinking of that before.
