The anatomy is kinda off on them. The first guy looks as though he's tilting to his right, and the second guy looks really long. Keep on posting!
P.S if you're going to make this thread your sketchbook thread then p.m one of the mods asking them if they can move it to the daily sketchbook sub section up there! ^^^^

they have a nice general design.. a little bit messy..but then they are sketches, the proportions on the second guy look off...imagine him without the clothes and you'll see what i mean...his abdomen will become very long. Post more..

I see what you guys mean now, yea even my instructor tells me that I do that alot... long abdomens haha.. I really want to take part in the daily sketch groups, how does it work? I mean do people just attend and draw? Are there certain groups? I will definitely get a thread in the sketchbook section when I get my scanner this week. Anything else wrong other than those mentioned?

i agree with stephen. the second guy is way too long. i think its supposed to be 2 heads for the upper body? i forget...
did you draw the armor first? cause for me i used to draw from face, straight to clothing and thats what messed me up. its alot easier when you draw the structure first.
keep practicing though!

try drawing the person without all the armor on and then "build" it on him. it takes awhile to get used to but it is worth it once you get the hang of it.

The first pictures the best and i think he is swaying right a little but over all they look good, did you use markers on them or are my eyes playing tricks.

What seems wrong with the archer? And yes markers for the first two..

there is something wrong with the archer's face, or the cloth covering his face. I like his pose, see if you could do something to make his left forarm look stronger i dont know, maybe make the bow look more tensed.

The archer just does not look as good

I think the problem with the archers left arm is that the arm can't ever be completely straight like that. A poised archer sure is a tough pose that's for sure. Hold your arm as straight out as you can...you will still notice a bend where the elbow and also in the direction the forearm is extending from the base of the elbow. In other words no one's arm is ever perfectly straight like that. I think that would help the other sketches as well to have a sense of the muscle and skeletal structure underneath and emphasize that. That's a very hard thing to do...I certainly can't do it. Keep pushing.
Be careful too about the position of your characters...each one's torso is facing us and there heads are pointed to the right. Make the pose a lot more dynamic and throw some foreshortening in there. Also don't be afraid to "not show something". What I mean is...the tendency is to show all of the front of a character or show everything about them you can...if a character is at a 3/4 view and one whole side is in shadow you can still convey a whole lot about it. Try to make the image as a whole more pleasing...people can fill in the spots that are in shadow in their minds...etc... Not sure if that made sense. Keep up the good work.

These drawings look a lot like characters out of Warcraft 3 and Dark Age of Camelot. The archer's right arm shouldn't move like that. When an archer pulls the drawstring back he uses his back and deltoid muscles. So if viewing him from the side, like you have it, his biceps shouldnt be very visible. Right now it seems like he's pulling the drawstring with just his arms, which is really hard. One more thing is that he seems to not have much of a neck. My guess is that you drew the cloth first without laying out an underlying structure [I used to do that a lot]. Try drawing the body/skeleton first, very lightly, then go over it.

archer..again imagine him wo clothes and you will see that his lower torso and legs are a slight bit too long for his arms and upper torse...not much just a little

Well the first two are from those games, I didn't have any pictures or reference though, I did them in class. The one with the cloak is the character i play in Daoc. Thanks for all the feedback, I've been working on a few more and tried to use more dramatic poses. Again, thanks.
P.S I think the scarf like thing i have on the archer actually covers the neck, what i see is that where the chest is, the neck should look fine if the scarf wasn't there.

These are just some stuff in my sketchbook... I just can't seem to force myself to do detail work so most of my stuff look like this.

You're on the right track, you look like you have lots of potential. Draw from life, learn that anatomy. Thats the biggest issue I see with these sketches, just some issues with anatomy and weight distribution. It's hard to just teach that or tell you what to do, best thing to do is draw draw draw from life.

yea... I'm working on it. The one with the driving girl is actually a quick sketch of my girlfriend while on our way home from my work. Could you maybe point out a few examples where I could correct my anatomy on any of them. I know the driving one has serious perspective problems, but the other two?

As far as specific problems with anatomy, your charcters are too 'strung out' and long, and theres some mismatched limbs and things... try to find a book that can tell you the basic rules of the polykleitan canon of proportion. The human body is somewhere between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 heads tall, 3 heads wide at the shoulders, elbows fall just above the waist line, fingertips fall midway down the thigh, handlength = face length, foot length = length of forearm, head is 5 eyes wide, 1 eye width between eyes, eyes are halfay down the face, nose halfway between eyes and chin, mouth halfway between nose and chin, etc etc, theres lots more. But still remember these rules arent hard and fast, there is variation for everyone.
