hello talented concept artists! its been a long time ive posted anything here in wonderful community, please forgive my absense.
its been quite busy here at my studio, and now i finally got around to expand my website.
though i may have been forgotten, but i thought i would give it a shot sharing some of my work and get your feedbacks.

okay, lets begin
----------------
MECH CONCEPT

GEISHA

MONK
it doesnt come very often that i enjoy developing mech design. 9 out of 10, i dont find no pleasure working on robots, but something strange happened, and i just had blast on couple of these robot concepts.

initially, when you start something with small intention like GEISHA, it works out better than you can hope for and it began to evolve as you control the pixels on it.

MONK, you see here is also a part of heaven's guardians, but much more premitive compare to geisha's capability. but its simple mechanism allows the deities to mass produced this particular unit.
those warriors on the front line, fullback on your foot ball team, or the muscle for the heavenly mob.

intention was be more typical, as far as mechanism and joint structure is concerned, but i tried once again to approach the uniqueness of it, however i came to a sad conclusion that you can only be so creative with humanoid mech designs. either you can be extremely creative and make a rediculously original bots, which will most likely look funny, or have the reminiscence of robots/human figures that you are familiar with and have viewers differenciate it from whats already been done.

Concept of monk is based on Buddist sprituality, and it should suggest shaolin monk esque appearance, but the halo you see over its head suggest more of christianity. thats because when some serious shit goes down and hell come arise, you gotta put everything together that stands for "good" in this world.

done over 2 to 3 nights, (feels like i spent more time on this than Geisha, although, i didnt) using only PSCS.

story project in development in association with DARKHORSE comics, NINJA TALKSHOW

http://www.messs.cc/albums/MCX/EPIPHANY1000.jpg
Epiphany
A Poet. A Mother. A Romantic fool.
Epiphany is the mother of epitaph. And she is famous for her romantic poetries. She was first established her career as a geisha, and managed a group of beautiful women serving the finest food and wine for those seeking company of heavenly female presences. Though, it changed everything when she fell in love with an anonymous ninja who had great smile, and became a mother of a child.
Epiphany becomes only intangible memories among ninja of old school, who ever touched and moved by her charisma. She became a legend among the Romanists.

Story of "KEEN," A Ninja Talkshow concept.
Concept and Lineart By HOON
color palette and Painted by JUJI

this particular character design concept was the first of its collection. which now have grown into more than what you can count with two hands.
Me and talented Juji have evolved its style so drastically on each piece, one of the most recent pieces are quite advanced now, and constituted our own formula.

http://www.messs.cc/albums/MCX/HOKUKAGE1000.jpg
HOKUKAGE. villian. livewire to the chaos in flame.

Hokukage is one of the many who are leading the Sullens, the army of dark ninja. This primitive yet well organized community began before any civilization, but it is slowly losing its territorial power.
Hokukage's greed and fame eventually grew out of proportion, and he took his roll in the eventual ruination of the army. His political advancements in the community gave him considerable influence, disapproved of by most....

This particular character is designed as iconic "NINJA" character for the story of Ninja Talkshow. To confirm that NINJA talkshow indeed have ninja characters in the story

OMAI.
The one and only.
The first ever to become a trustworthy bodyguard of Ginshi when Ginshi was 15. Ever since she has remained on the very top of Ginshi's imperial bunnies, managing all the beautiful guardians. Her everlasting beauty and youth is something that ginshi appreciates more than anything on the planet.

8th character design of Ninja Talkshow character concept.

http://www.messs.cc/albums/MCX/TARA_Bonbon1000.jpg
Return of Pop Star. Tara Bonbon.

This is one of the early collaborations Sir Stanley and I did to confirm and caliberate the affiliation of two up-and-coming art studios, IFS (imaginary friends studios) and MESSS. And it happens to be the new version of Tara bonbon one of the first piece of illustration i ever made public, 2 years ago.
With this picture, new volume of Ninja Talkshow character concept collection began.
Tara Bonbon (student/younger version) is a senior classmate of the main character Epitaph, and her goal is to become a singer/songwriter/dancer when she graduate from the school, so she can get the attention of "the man," GINSHI, and eventually become his imperial bunny.

concept, Lineart, and layout by myself,
character beautifully painted by SIR artgerm.
Painter and Photoshop used.

These look wonderful. I like the color use and design of the characters alot. They are nice and clean. They are some proportion issues in a few. But everything looks well done.

ahhh how i've been WAITING for you to post over here again. (i was the one asking in the lounge where you were).
i saw some of those pics over at deviantart and thought "what the hell? does hoon like them better than us at ca.org?"

thanks everybody! so generous of you to share positive feedbacks

Matt, some propotional abuse isnt something im trying to hide, its infact intentional. ive always tried hard to mimic the reality in my early work, but now i am stiring away from that direction and give more flavor and style to all elements. proportion is also part of that direction. thanks alot for pointing out tho.

aly! the man himself! woo. glad you like it man. its so much pleasure sharing some similar taste in art. ^^

Carnifex.
actually, good friend Spyroteknik pointed out the thread you made on Lounge here, and thats pretty much what triggered me to post art here again. i wont deny that. im still very blush thinking about it, and i must thank you many times inviting me again to this wonderful community. thanks thanks thanks. :bashful:

thanks Pich! i hardly ever dump so many images at once, but i believe i owe some quantity of work to conceptdotorg. well, as long as admins dont mind too much pictures in one thread.

jayne, HOON baby frenchise number..... 12. does that work for you?
no thanks for the offer.. i am just not physically equiped to bear children. :muscle:

thanks everyone once again!

i read the thread about you in the Lounge area, was hanging out to see some of your work. very very nice. amazingly enough i found one nitpick amongst all this golden stuff. the hair of Hot Pepper is kinda flat for my liking.. tho thats probably just personal style :P my personal fave is Fuzzy Dice. wonderful. hope to see more from you soon!

May 28th, 2005, 11:59 AM
wow! these are all super cool! I really dig the character designs, very cool designs. The guy witht the chains is really friggin cool, I love it, the way you designed it is super cool. One crit I have is the last character design, the girl with the mic, her arm holding the mic looks a little broken, like stretches to far back. maybe if you wanted to redo it, and I'm sure this is for a job, you could put the mic arm infront of her, because if it was inback of her I think you wouldn't see it witht the foreshortening and angle it would be behind her torso. dude, that is really it. they are all fine pieces, and they kick ass! :teeth:

Venndetta1
May 28th, 2005, 02:40 PM
wow hoon, amazing! I finally got to see your stuff. I dont know what to say, I know the character proportions are purposely exaggerated for flavor and looks, so I guess all I can say is keep up the f-ing awesome work dude! We need$ more Asian artists!

Also, I noticed you did Stanley Lau's Pepper with your own take of course, and that was hot! Stanley's a personal favorite too, did you get the chance to work with him during previous projects?

:ninja:
thanks guys!

:right: Ismail, i use default brushes most of the time, and first two mech designs are done with one brush, "airbrush pen opacity flow" on PSCS.
some of my favorite painter brushes are oils.. dry ones, and Acrilic soft wet brushes. pencil and ink, pastel is also very good.

:right: thanks LOOK, i know you did! i see you around too :teeth:

:right: jayne.. my true profession is Alien palm reading services. and i have alien proof boxors on, so im protected from alien anal probing..... er. yeah.
i checked out your sketches in your sig link. very nice stuff. lovely style.

:right: b-man, take care of that mess! sticky keyboards sucks. glad to find someone who is new to my work, and liking it. i gotta thank this community for that once again.

:right: 'stoph, well yeah, i have a series of caricature portraits like that. some people really love that style, and i do too^^ just one of afew different style im working on to tame perfectly.

:right: se7en_ i certainly will try!

:right: spyroteknik, yeah man get your self back on the gear! otherwise i will have to fly to UK and spank you with my royal-lazy-artist-bat. you dont want that to happen infront of max, now would you? :D

:right: Gilead... er.. doesnt every single one of them have feel of anime, one way or another? maybe you meant the black and white screentone piece.. manga style. well it does have completely different feel from the rest, but reason why i posted it is because i wanted to showcase the technique. digital screentoning isnt something that are wide spread now, and the way i do digital screentoning is quite new and original i think. just wanted to share that ^^

:right: poise- good point about tara bonbon piece. you see i think its more of her breasts that doesnt work in the picture. normally, her right "booB" should point more towards left pointing away from the viewer, then her arm will look more natural behind her. i just dont see myself going back there, since it was rather elaborate collab work, so i better move on and do another character, thats better, with your comment accounted.

:Venndetta1: yeah, stan is okay. hehe no, he is great. we didnt work on any big project before, and his comic studio IFS is very new. they are working on some project of their own, but there are one project in mind, they will hop on a project that weve been developing at mess, and create someing big. MESS and IFS are becoming pretty much brothers studio. one in california, one in singapore. very cool.

:right::left::up::down: *takes a deep breaths* Sems liquidwerx Presence The Brett Carnifex(once again)Tetsuo dariocoelho Diego and annisahmad..... thank you very m uch for kind words! im very glad i finally got things sorted out, and play here among great artists.

thanks everyone! have a wonderful day. mine appears to be just that, and its all because of you! :vodkamachine:

Wow! These are IN-credible! Awesome, man. My favorite is the ninja. I've seen a couple before and I'm glad to know who did them now (too). The robots are really well concepted. I don't like typical robots and you've gone way beyond that. Just give some kind of crit, Tara Bonbon's back arm looks a little off. A hint of an elbow would help for me. The subtleties are so good, like the design in the ninjas shadow! Great attention to design. :O

i KNOW for a fact that you've studied Hyung Tae Kim, and i think the stuff is gorgeous.

The robots Were really interesting, designs i've never seen before! The First one KINDA looks like Wes's robot (The Chest part). The Wings, pure eye candy and the Weapon-instrument thingy, DAYUM!

Loving the Character sheets too ^_^

Hoon..
this is my first time at Conceptart.org and your thread was the first i clicked on, may i say it's INSPIRING!!
i'm more of an oil on canvas girl.. but your use of polished lines, soft warm colors and movement throughout the page is brilliant..CONGRATS on all the completed works in such a short amount of time..that takes dedication..
my top 3 would be Epiphany (love the soft background, great lines), Hokuage (love the chains) and Hot Pepper love the use of red (she's hot).
well that's it for now.. hope to see more of you in the future.. :canadapatriot:

:right: kian3001, 3 hours is correct. i really got around trained myself to work fast. however, inorder to work on something as detailed as HOKUKAGE, the ninja character concept.. it took me about a week, full time so it really is matter of how you approach in my opinion. ^^
:right: ArtisticSchmidt, tara bonbon's arm being little odd, has been noted. and im trying to convince everyone its the boob thats little off, but its not working at all! ^^;
:right: Aremah, progress shots, yes. good idea. i did post some on my site, but nothing spectacular, or involved. but i try to make as much screen captures as possible, so next time i will have something solid to show ya all.
:right:AndrewLey, cheers! :vodkamachine:
:right:buttman20 its been said many times my character designs for this particular project reminds of HTK's work. well, i certainly know his work, and i have great respect for him doing so well in the industry. but STUDYING his work isnt something i would call this. its most likely the same influences and the same culture that myself and HTK grew up in. him and i are both from korea, and at similar age. i grew up watching tv cartoons and comics, probably he did too. people tend to forget about artists before him, like masamune shirow and otomo katsuhiro. and not to mention all those great korean comic artists who inspired me as a kid who wants to improve in art.
as far as color work is concerned, Me and JUJI work very closely though out the process. she is very young artist, and she is capable of obsolving styles and techniques like sponge! so for this particular project, we will keep push this look, since its a formula we succesfully put together, but the various style that we can put together is yet been set in concrete. having said all that, i gotta thank you again for comparing our work with such a well established artist in the industry.
:right: Scubasteve, i have a comic called Starwars JEDI yoda available on the book store, from Darkhorse. and some other indi publications. NINJA TALKSHOW is a story project ive been developing for long time, with intention of turning it into a video game one day, but for the time being, i set my steping stone as comics. i have resources and connections, and comic production can be done by 2 to 3 people. i wounldnt wanna run a big studio quite yet. i have so much to learn.
:right:Vixen444, wow, thanks. good choices on the top3 too. im glad to be the one who sort of represent the great community for the time being, for you at least.
:right:IZZO SKITZO lumpnugetty IZZy. thanks for the comment. i feel that this place really suits you well. your solid style just doesnt get approperiate recognitions in some kiddy communities anyway. JEN is around. i talked to her today, and even told her about you missing her. baby girl is enjoying her new place, moving heavy stuff around and pull her back etc. im sure she will catch you online and harrass the way you should be harrassed.

thanks every one, and those i didnt get to specifically respond. those who mentioned something like this collection of concept art came to you inspirations, i cant think of any better complement. i am so grateful that you all enjoy looking at them, and possibly put you back on the drawing board.

cheers everyone! sake is on me!

beautiful technique.. sometimes the anatomy seems a little strange, but these are so refined that it's barely noticable... man... I love the patterns you work into the shadows... that's such a clever idea..
