I have just started to learn to render an image with a wacom tablet. this is my first attempt.

I have very limited painting skills and am trying to learn. so... for reandering, how do i ad more detail and depthr in painter? I am going to try layering in differant shades of colors on top of my base color. is this the correct way to go?

I am totally lost on this. any helo would be greatly appreciated

Someone stop me if I am wrong here, but I think you need to step back a few steps. Work on getting a solid drawing before you try and tackle colour. The anatomy and proportions are way off, take care of that first.

I am not the best artist here by far, but I can recognize that you need a lot of work before you work on the rendering thing.

what he^ said...

you should really be concerned with drawing instead of rendering at this pont in your process. I know it's frusterating, but remember that means you are about to have a breakthrough/learn something

Heres a small critelycrit for ya, first of all you need some serious anatomy pratice.

If you dont understand how the body looks like theres no way youll be ready to render it imo, sure you could copy a image or something but you would still not understand whats going on. To be honest the pic you have there is to basic to really give any crits to there just to much to say. So im going to say what you can do to get more skills so you will be better and someday get fair crits. First of all Sanby is totally right, take alot of steps back and work on your basic drawing skills first. Something that has helped me alot is life drawing, ive had like 60 hours of life drawing and i feel like i could need 10 times that. You have alot of work infront on you but dont get discourage you have a wonderfull voyage to proffesion.

Basic anatomy practice.
http://www.fineart.sk/ has some good stuff and ive learned alot from that site.
Look on amazon or search around in conceptart, theres alot to learn here.

Take a good look at your picture and look at a front view of a human body, doesnt really matter how hes built like you can tell you have more flaws on that body to count, its easier to say whats right than whats wrong (a part of the right thigh looks pretty good). Stay with the books and for the love of god take some life drawing classes, the anatomy book will help a great deal combined with classes. ITs also a good thing to look around in the Conceptart Reference forum, great stuff has been posted there.

If i were you i wouldnt even think about colors yet, to much work for nothing really. Maybe you should start a sketchbook so you can show us what you do at DAILY BASIS, you have to work your ass of and fucking cry blood before you get good, and dont count on getting good withing the few weeks, months hell even years. And please dont try to force yourself into somekinde of style (anime/manga is one) just let your style come naturaly through studies and hard work, the best style is your own.
