View Full Version : DSG 758: Scene/Environment: THE AGE OF CLOUDS

Pretty well open to interpretation, I suppose, but make sure it includes clouds. Putting a figure or two somewhere in the pic is probably a good idea... perhaps in a hot-air balloon, or one a them fancy flying boats, or parachuting, or in a plane... I dunno. Just for scale. You know.

Lunarsis: Love the lighting and the color. Nice.
Sunny: Good work keep practicing. Anatomy is something I have trouble with too :nohope:. Just have to keep life drawing over and over and over again :rendered: . I like the bright spot, go back over it and make everyobject behave correctly accordingly to that light source so that you can get 10 times more immersion in your image. Keep trying dont ever give up!

this one came together really fast... slightly over an hour, plus the concept designs. Might revisit this pic one day with a two page comic or something. And I will not ruin it with colour... heheh.

Hmm, clouds, clouds... Dust clouds, maybe? Large dust clouds, from the earliest stages of birth of our solar system, inside which the friction-generated heat and the pressure have just started the first thermonuclear reactions. Yes, before the sun, long before the birth of Earth, was the Age of Clouds.

Alright....not really an environment. But I wanted to participate anyway, even though I hardly have the time. Quick little cartoon today. He's a cloud surfer during the Age of Clouds. Or something....
Yaso Kuuhl - I really like your's. Very dynamic.

After several decades with a much diminished ozone layer, and an ecological nightmare, a marvelous change has happened in a mere evolutionary second - What remained of the vegatation began expelling water attracting particles, causing a protective fog to envelope the earth, and bringing on the age of clouds.
painter, 30 min? really not sure about this one, tried to go with an overexposed look for anything above the clouds

hamsta: try making the clouds with more definition, less "single roundedness" and more lots of puffy parts and abstract shapes. if you want to make the buildings the focus, bring them towards the front and give them some more detail, windows, lights, etc. otherwise: you are imrpoving every day I'm glad to see you keep it up. you will soon be an expert.

Great paintings.
I had good occasion to test my custom brushes so it took me about 2 hours.

Well the Zeppelin was non-ref and the clouds I followed a tutorial and then winged the rest. Took about hour, hour n a half. Lighting, perspective, shadows, reflections. . . all wrong.

But I had fun! Sorta gave up again (lol)
Everyone did awesome, but Yaso. . . I swear the gas clouds are swirling. The sense of movement is just killer, excellent job.

I thought it would be better if I didn't write any story of The Cloud Sheriff.
The image should be enough.
Painter, quite exactly 1h30.
Nervous Pen rulez still, but I've discovered also something called 'Smeary Round' (in 'Oils').
My custom palette is growing.
Hamsta It had to be png, jpg ate the orange.

I don't have much time today, but I wanted to make my first post here in honor of my recent acquisition of a fine Wacom tablet (yay!), so here's a quickie of a pterodactyl-creature race through a futuristic smoggy sky.

Man's ingenuity and industrial might could not stop the effects of global warming. The seas of the world have risen over 10 feet and the land that remains above the water is constantly pummeled by savage storms.

Photoshop with a mouse, I spent about 5 hours on this and it is too similar to my reference pic but it was good practice in colour and form. I don't have anything to establish scale though, I am being lazy.

Sorry, I have'nt done any dsg's for few days now. Been sleeping alot and trying to learn to paint with acrylics (mixing colors is difficult!) and last night started to draw a short comic :teeth:
Tried to draw this topic last night, but the sky started to look too much like an cave, so I gave up :^^;: but I gave it another try this morning.. photoshop, couple hours..

William b. Hand - wow, I gotta practice more at drawing clouds. you are good!
Rice Rurouni - Aaw, you draw much better those pterodactyl-creatures than mee. im jealous!
Farvus - Nice! Though the tables look a bit funny to me, it looks as if the tables had differnt perspective, hehee
machzero - You cant mean that! Sure coloring can be hard, but its also much more fun! Even children know this. Now go and color you're walls with crayons(I know you want to)... see, wasnt it fun! :teeth:
I slept only three hours last night, going to sleep now.. Ill try to get todays dsg ready in time  just gotta sleep first..........

A day late, but oh well . . . still not finished, but I'm pleased enough to post. Anyway, really great work on this topic guys. I especially like idea behind the dinosaurs as transportation that Rice and Xenos had. CSoldier7, dude, I'm sorry for your pain, but dude, your art frickin' rocks man. Yeah . . . I guess I took a way different approach to this one, but its the image that came to me, so I stuck with it. good times. Cheers!

Thanks so much Lyliani....Im glad that you like it. I really like the painting of Hathor, on your website. You have some good character studies.
Thanks DoubleEdgeArtist. Yeah, pain can sometimes be a good focus for creative ecstacy. Thanks for the comment. I like the mood of your concept, and the unconventional road that you chose for the storyline. Hey, you could even continue to develop the lighting, and varition of tints and tones in the artwork. That would really show off your conceptual skills.
