Well, not exactly a wrath-y guy, was thinking more like a spectre manipulating the world currents. But we could pretend he's the one messing with the Bermuda Triangle water! ;)

machzero - Yes! Heh, I would like to say that you should be more bold with the colours, but I remember all the horrible paintings I did, when I was just starting to colour my work ;)
Instead, when you are beginning to colour ure work. You should start small. Use only 2 colours (and mayby little bit of third) and use more colours when you become more confident.. Of course, im not an expert. can somebody know if there's a better way to learn colouring?

These are very fine!
Unfortunately I don't have time today, but I'll drop in later for some commenting. I love Eriboss' - it's mighty spectacular!

An hour of ghostly scribbling resulted in this:

A bit of research as to what a wraith actually is would've helped, but I think it'll do.

not sure if it is obvious or not, but thats supposed to be a dead sailor that just became a wraith or something...
Please forgive me, but my first thought was that it was a homo-necrophili-wraith. Looks good though, eye placement and shape maybe off a bit and it looks wierd that they're bright white with no glow or soft edge around them.

The Bianca C was a large cargo ship, sunk by a torpedo in WWII the captain had died with a curse on his lips. Now any unlucky diver who strays near is likely to experience a gruesome death, adding his life force the wraith of the seas.

Thanks for the comments yesterday. ill try to participate more often, again. was my first post in months...
sketchling and eribos are my favourites today. Those waves... intimidating!
farvus, could you say a word or two to your picture? I like it, its scary, but im not sure whats going on down there.
xenos quite strong picture. but its good you explaned it. The water looks a bit to much like ice imo. And you could try to draw a screaming face, instead of the "im a ghost, so what?" expression ;)

Cybot Floor - I think I didn't distinguish the spectre from the background enough. It's ethereal beacause made of bubbles. The spectre has black holes which were supposed to be eyes and mouth. It holds wooden staff with latern tied to it.
If it's unlcear then the picture seeems be small failure. Maybe next DSG will be better :).
Great paintings all. I like Sunny's and Sketchling's the most.

VegasMike - This is a cool idea. It looks huge so i doubt it would need a spear. The eyes are very cool.
Cybot Floor - Interesting use of colors. The only problem I have with it is that I cant tell what it is, this leads me to beleive that it is more traditional art. By which I mean My imagination would tell me what I see, i see a fish like creature :)
Hamsta - Youve been around for some time now havent you :) Its sugestive like cybot floor's . I dont think you depicted your sceen as well as you could have. keep it up tho!
sketchling - It took me a few minutes to get it but now i think its awesome. the water was done really well no question about that. It looks to me like there is a small boat in an ocean of water and there is some sort of creature (HUGE) comign from under the water and pushing it like crazy. whicked!
Dodge - This is a very cool style. Very mysterious and myth like. Looks like something you would find in scripture.
Yaso Kuuhl - Reminds me of titanic :D The girl or woman was done nicely, the rest could use work but it serves its purpose as a sketch. I like what youve done, I can feel and understand the helplessness the boy might be feeling. That would freak the sh*t outta me.
machzero - This is a huge improvement, youve been around for a long time as well and your def getting better. I enjoy the playfulness here. zombie like.
Pixeldragoon - Cool water, Other than that i think your peice lacks a certain amount of sharpness. Keep it up though!
CrazyHarij - This reminds me so much of that movie Cacoon, Whicked idea tho, just need to work a little longer on the details and edges.
Eriboss - I think i can see the little people falling out of the boat :D The face on this creature is insane. Its a wonderful picture, good job man.
xenos - Your character is my favorite part. You can totally tell that its his ghost coming out of him, the arms were done beautifully.
Farvus - Cool idea, The lighting could have been strong to set the mood but overall its neat.

Everyone made cool entries. Sunny, favourite today. Vegas, Xenos, Eriboss (Xenos, your treatment here looks different from your usual stuff, though it looks to be done much quicker than most, I like it), Mach, and Dodge (Dodge, nice style youve been using lately), Yaso, and Sketchling among others.
Enjoyed the topic, I want to make another one if I have time later today. Peace!

Thanks everyone, some really cool's today
VegasMike - definaltey has a posiedon pose feel to it - i love it, especially its right arm and the wave behind it splasing over
xenos - Really cool, nice detail on the body, yeah, juss the dead body position bugs me a bit, maybe some transition on the wraiths body where theres contact.
Farvus - Yeah it took me a while to get the face, the bubbles need to be more opaque i think, other than that I really like it
Cybot Floor - Cool, juss looks like a deep sea glowing fishy dude
Hamsta - Wicked concept, wanted to see a diver getting done in tho!
sketchling - Really cool, love the little boat and the water, tho it took me a while to work out exactly what the giant oceanly disturbance was
Dodge - Yeah has a ancient scripture illustration feel to it, vikingly almost. Love the water
Yaso Kuuhl -Great Picture, one of my favorites, great creepy dark feel to it, wicked :D
machzero - Like it, i think the almost sepia tones really suit it
CrazyHarij - Like the concept, would like to see it sharpened up a bit
Sunny - Thanks man, I like yours - very creature from the black lagoony, kinda has a 50's vibe to it, good work.
Pixeldragoon - Great Water! To me tho it looks as if you were looking straight up from the bottom of the sea, we were positioned below your character, that perspective would look super
Lukavi - Awesome rendering and character - I adore the little pier bit to the right the most.

xenos - Very cool! I understood very quickly what was happening. Very very nice!
Eriboss - That's hysterical! Love the tendrils coming off the front area (Am I seeing that right?).
machzero - Good for you! Colour's a hell of a thing.... I think it's trial and error, undo's and guesses, for a lot of us.
Dodge - Great movement, balance of dark and light, cool textures!
sketchling - Holy smokes that's beautifully done! A remarkable ability to visualize, and then to realize, that you've got there.
VegasMike - Fun pic! Very familiar look to that face, somehow...
lukavi - Pretty lighthouse... Really nice detail in it. I love the concept that it's an old, unused fixture now. Seems to me a dark orange sky would suit the pic better, though.
Panagos - Great pencil drawing! Really nice handling of transparency, and you really feel for this guy.

Some drowned fisherman. At least he never has to worry about worms...

Appreciate the tip, Will. I tried the orange and liked it better. Thanks again. Good job on yours by the way. I like its looming form, though its a little hard to understand what he is. Is he made of water and veins?

sunny, eribos thanks for comments. You are both right - its a glowing deepsea fishy wormlike thing.
I understood the topic in the more zoological sense. Something called ocean spectre, wothout actually beeing one :)

A lot of commenting... I don't even have the will to check for spelling or other mistakes in my reply (and yes, I actually do that ;) ). Well, I'm tired, I haven't slept today (party :) )
Farvus Nice wraith design. And with that lantern.
I also tend to have a limited colour scheme in some of my works, but here I feel that it could use a little bit of some other colour (but I don't know what exactly).
xenos Good skill, good colours, but I don't feel the distance. Concept is cool.
Eriboss Yes! Such a powerfull image! I love that detailed head. Great mood overall.
CrazyHarij Interesting concept. The upper leg looks weird and unnatural (and not only because it's a spectre leg).
Pixeldragoon Like in most of these, I like the idea. The water has something good in it.
machzero Yeah, but where's the water? I don't feel it at all - at least get those hair flowing. The colours are very subtle, I'd have to see more of your coloured work to make an opinion, but they also don't speak "water". Design is nice, I like the torn lower part, though overall it's not too original, comparing to the others.
Yaso Kuuhl I quite like it, apart from the boy's (?) face, which looks unnatural. The waves and the moon are the best parts of the picture. Also the clothes are alright.
Dodge I like it more than the mermaid. Actually I like it very much (apart from the ship, doesn't seem as completed as the rest). The right lower corner somehow appeals to me the most.
sketchling Toooo dark. I had to reduce the contrast to see the spectre. The sea is great, but the spectre doesn't look evil/active enough. She doesn't look like a threat would look.
Sunny Very nice design, original. I'd like to see some more (at least one) bright parts somewhere in the image. Wait! After reducing the contrast I can see the background and it completely doesn't look like I though it looks.
Hamsta Again nice wraith idea. As for me, your sketches lack some texture. The surface looks the same in all parts of it.
Cybot Floor I don't have the slightest idea what it is. Some kind of fish, I guess, but sooo unclear.
VegasMike Yeah, I'm your fan, but it's maybe a bit too standard for you to amaze me this time ;). The colours in the backgroung are very good.
lukavi 1. Isn't it out of scale? I like the lighthouse silhouette.
2. That's more like it! Wonderfull detail of face and overall style.
Panagos Technique is really fine. I don't feel the water too much, but I don't know how could you make it better.
William b. Hand Sweet work. Concept, texture and that part where it hits the boat. And, of course, the mood. Crit? He could have looked more wet, watery...
Dan1989 Yeah, unclear. I like the idea.

Yeah... lookin at it on my home monitor, it is way dark... I guess thats what comes of painting on an LCD. I meant for her to be hard to see though. The little guys in the boat will not see her till she's over them. I wanted it to be the sea itself that felt threatening... looming over them and only after looking at it a while can you see that that incredible force is actually being manipulated by...something huge.
Its how I usually solve character briefs as an environment nutcase... I make the environment tell the story.
Some wicked stuff goin on in here :)
DAN 1989 - Haha... this makes me think of those blurry hand-held home video's of unexplained phenomenon... Dunno if ya meant t like tyhat, but I think its very cool!
Sunny & Yaso Khuul - Interesting choice to use black and white... I really think it worked well for both of you. Makes for a powerful image in both cases.
William b hand :) Like him... kinda reminds me of the boioler room man in Spirited away with a bit o protoss thrown in. Only advice I could give ya is to maybe rough up the sea... cause the composition of it makes it very calm.. .or even to put another arm into the ocean right in the foreground on the left to make the boat look like he is engulfing it? Wicked ;)
Oh, And Lukavi, I really like the eyes on that one. very haunted and spooky. Thats a very unhappy fisherman. Must have been his turn as bait? Wicked stuff
Hamsta

Eriboss good job, I like the textures, and the size does the job, nitpicking - the boat is very graphic, I wouldn't bother with it though.
Sunny love the contrast, good use of b&w some of the darker details get lost, but it has a nice quality like that
