Hey guys,
Ok, Im not really an old man but I did miss the monorail on anime type art. Im trying to open up a bit to the genre if nothing else to get a better understanding of the designs they use. So if youd like, drop in the names of some artist or manga\anime images you think kicks ass.
Thx Clepto

Hmmm...i personally like "Hiroaki Samura" (hope the spelling is correct o.O ) who did the "Blade of the Immortal" comics. But I don`t think he is a "pure" Anime/Manga artist...he seems to go a tad away from the traditional over-stilized ;Manga/Anime of our time....

Hiroaki Samura is really good. I love his art. I agree his style isn't really that anime-ish.
Someone told me Yoshitaka Amano is anime artist, kind of a surprise to me, but oh well.
I also like Jo Chen's work, although her style is more of a mix between anime/manga and western comic.
Oh! Great is really good anime artist. I don't know that artist's real name, that's his nick for his mangas. He drew AirGear (really good action and art, lot of revealing scenes.. XD), also Majin Devil. Don't know what other manga he did, but he's worth checking out.
I also like the art from Death Notes, by Takeshi Obata. Very nice and detailed, story is pretty interesting too.
Can't think of other artists right now..

I can definitely recommend you Adolf by Osamu Tezuki, he's also the creator of Astro Boy. Adolf is about 3 men called Adolf during WWII, one of them being Hitler. It's an amazing story.
Then there's Keiji Nakazawa with Barefoot Gen. It's the story of a boy who survives Hiroshima. Tragic and awful at times to read, but fantastically done.
Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira. Don't really need to explain this one, hmm? :)
These artists have created many graphic novels that contain both cool art and impressive stories. If you're just looking for eyecandy, Masamune Shirow has many pretty pictures, haven't read Appleseed yet. But the authors i've mentioned are 'oldschool' manga creators (the books are mostly written before 1980) and did all the work before photoshop entered the world, so it's quite interesting to see thousands of pages just filled with excellent storylines.

Masamune Shiro (Apple seed, Ghost in the shell)
Leiji Matsumoto (Galaxy express 999/Albator/Harlock/Queen Emeraldas)

Well some of my favourites have already been mentioned so I'll move onto those who aren't mentioned yet.
Yu Kinutani. Darkside of the Devilman, Leviathan.
Akihiro Yamada. Record of Lodoss War - Lady Of Pharis.
Ryuichi Ikegami. Crying Freeman and a whole slew of others.
Toshiki Yui. Once you see his girls, you'll fall in love with it :D a little too "clean" for some people though. This guy uses filters in a criminal way LOL
Kia Asamiya. Silent Mobius, Steam Detectives, more recently Batman (licensed DC manga version).
Junji Ito. Horror manga writer/artist. His tales are ultra twisted. I was so grossed out by it the first time I read it, but I keep going back! I got a small collection of his stuff :teeth:
That just about rounds up some of my favourite manga artists.
Oh and err..someone mentioned Jo Chen? She's cute :D

As far as works that will make you open up to anime, I would reccomend the movies Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2 as well as the shows Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion, 26 episodes each. All of those are deep on the level of great literature and are stunning whether you happen to like the art style or not.

I like Kim Hyung-Tae (Magna Carta), Yoshitoshi Abe (Lain, Haibane Renmei and Texhnloyze) and Katsuya Terada (everything esp. his girls) very much.
You should check http://www.naimoka.com The site has galleries on these 3 I mentioned and many more. The site is french but very easy to navigate so no problem.
