View Full Version : Lack of respect etc...(subject is closed, thx)

As you can see, I'm now a "super duper creator of worlds", expression that I don't understand because my english isn't good enough.
I'm a bit afraid it's a disguised insult, so I'm very disappointed about that. I've read "duper" means something like "fake" or "lie"...
I've never insulted anybody here, and I don't insult any english people in french : i'm not a coward !
Anyway it's not what I asked for : if admin or mods don't want to change "registered user", ok, it's not that important. But when they put under my name something I didn't ask for, that 's a real lack of respect, showing that some mods don't deserve the responsability to rule a forum.
I came here to share works, point of views, crits&comments ; I've tried to personnalize my profile, just to feel a bit like home here, like many others did, and now what do I get ?
I really hope i'm wrong, because if not, it would be a disgusting surprise.

lol, arctis, relax, duper may sounds bad alone, but super duper is like a slang means its super super. ^^
So you are a super super creator of worlds, I see that as a good thing.

What do you mean? Did you ask for asn entirely different usertitle? And super duper isn't that bad really.

hey you are wrong.
It means that you are like super super in creating worlds.
Its not an insult, relax.

My english isnt the best either, but i know your stuff and its very talented and original, so i cant see why anybody should try and make you feel bad. Im guessing they mean good.

Ok, guys, I hope you're right.
Yes, jermainev, I asked for something totally different, "The Voyager", because I like travel in my dreams... Much, much sober than my "brand new user title", isn't it?
Anyway it's a lack of respect to put that "duper" thing without asking. I've sent some PM, just to make it clear... let's see what'll happen.
Fellah ; thanx, man : I'm not very old, but I've already seen things at school that could make anybody paranoiac. For my diploma, one member of the jury shit on my work because she found it too "professional".
Anyway thanx for your support, guys, really ! ;)

Wow I just saw how freaking good you really are!!!! You deserve "The Voyager" if that's what you really want. Creator of Worlds still sounds bad-ass though. Good luck in your quest for justice against the evil moderators.

Maybe the mod you wrote to wanted to give you this - IMO nice title - as a sign of respect for your super creations. But it came off bad.
There's a polish saying - "Over zealousness (not sure about the spelling) is worse than fascism" ;)

Your title was taken from a quote of bRyaN (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=482713#post482713). I'm pretty sure it was a genuine complement.

Asking for a title is a risky gamble. You got lucky in my opinion. I saw someone had the title "spends more time begging than drawing" which I thought was hilarious.

i had no idea what i said was gonna be put under your name....by the way
i'm not a mod, i just post a lot...
i just came up with something fun, to keep with some of the funnier titles...but to keep it respectful to your abilities as an artist...

Arctis: You must know that you have insane skills, I cannot possibly accept that you don't know that. To have someone actually take what you suggested and add more positive to it....it's only like tagging an 'A' with a whole hell of alot of pluses.
If I may humbly suggest: Embrace it! Enjoy it!

BrYaN : ok, man, I understand now : we just misunderstood. I sent you a PM. Thanx to have clarify it ;)
orcatraz : you said it's a risky gamble, I see you're right. But there's no reason for treating a simple request in a ironic way. It's an art forum, not in an army where the "hierarchy" put silly nicknames on each members without asking them.
Mods have xtras rights, in order to rule the forum, and I totally understand that (just remember an ass h**e who posted a bad porn pict... hopefully mods were there to remove it !). They also have responsabilities, and I find sad to have to underline such an evidence.
Helzon : thanks for you post :), I just wanted to make clear, because it sincerely wasn't for me, that's all.

What are you talking about man? If you didn't understand, why wouldn't you just ask somebody instead of freaking out on the forum? The titles are dispensed at the admins discretion. They are the ones who keep this place running smoothly. Why err on the side of percieving insult where none exists?
ps- super duper creator of worlds > The Voyager

Super duper is just a rhyme for super.
Don't worry about what "duper" alone might mean -- the fact that duper alone might mean "someone who dupes" is just a coincidence. Nobody uses that word in that way, anyway

Yeah mang, to further clarify, "super duper" is in this sense used as a mock-playful indication of respect. So it is a compliment, and quite a large one.

jetpack42 : believe me, I asked. But I had no answer until I "freak out "the forum, as you said... As I said before, I've made research in my dictionnary, finding an unpleasant translation. I always said I hoped I was wrong.
Believe me or not, but outside USA, it happens that people don't speak english as well as in Seattle. Sometimes they speak a different mother tongue... surprising, isn't it?
jfrancis & SJ Bennighof : thanx for the explanation : a book can't tell me that ! ;)

The Oxford American Dictionary defines 'Super-Duper' as such:
super-duper |sooper dooper| adjective humorous very good; marvelous : this new line of toys is super-duper. • tremendous or colossal in size or degree : "a super-duper ice sculpture".
With that said, why has this thread reached 20 posts? This was blown WAYYYYY out of proportion.
lock thread.
Arctis
May 18th, 2005, 07:21 PM
Exo : it's out of proportion, for sure : it would have been SOOO easy to only put what I asked for ("The Voyager", and not that pretentious-ironical title I never wanted)
My identity is mine : no one has right to play with it. I think it's quite clear and understandable.
Stop playing with it and the question will be closed.

As mentioned before, the mods administer custom titles at their own discretion. they have the right to change it into whatever they want. There's a pretty loose atmosphere in these forums, and most of the custom titles are humorous. A custom title is not a right, but a privilegium. And when one of the mods give you a title, you should take that as a compliment, and not whine about it. Ask them to change it back to registered user if you feel they abused your personal identity.
Alot of ranting, but my point is that people usually dont just ASK for a custom title and get it, they do something to tickle a mods fancy, then the mods give them a title they think is appropriate, humorous or even an inside joke. You shouldnt take this gesture as abuse of your personal identity.
//edit: by the way, your title sounds like a goddamn large compliment to me.

Ok calm down people - there's no reason to start THIS conversation. Arctis initial problem is now solved. Now some of the mods should come and close this thread before someone starts France Vs Seattle TD :P :D

As said before, in this thread http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44595, you don't get to pick a title yourself. That's the whole idea. So when bryan wrote the super duper creator of worlds thing, I thought I could use it. I didn't know super duper could be misunderstood.

Hi everyone,
JetPack : I think you're living much above your means.
Thanx for your support and explanations, now let's close that thread.
I still think it would have been much easier to say "yes" or "no" to my request (a request a lot of people here did...)
Anyway maybe I totally misunderstood the process, OK that's for me.
Pontemonti, if there's no bad state of mind behind it, just fun, I accept it.
Bye.
