Hi everyone! I am new in Concept Art.
What is the most common and basic software / tools should I use except for Photoshop?
I have skills in oil and pencil but using Photoshop does not give me the same results. I do not have same precise lines and borders after coloring the pencil background....
Help anyone..... :(

I think a lot of people use painter here, for a more traditional way of touch and blending colors.
I recommend openCanvas, I like it better than painter. ;) You can either try their trial version (http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/index.asp) or google for openCanvas version 1 download, which is the free version.

Photoshop takes a lot of practice because it's not very intuitive. Try painter or open canvas. open canvas v1.1 is free. download (http://www.purrhead.thj.no/proggies/oC11b68.exe)
EDIT: look beat me to it. now i'm repetitive.
yeah, I think oC is the best program to introduce someone to digital.

cuz it's the sexh!
Well, it's just great. Have you ever tried it? It seems to work with the tablets a lot better than painter or photoshop. And the way it blends color is just so watercolor like. And it's easy to use, doesn't have tons of things to confuse you with.
and it's cheap!

Damn. I've been waiting forever for the supposed Mac port to try it. I heard one was in development a while ago but I'm beginning to think that was just wishfull thinking.

Why do you guys think openCanvas is so great? Because the pressure sensitivity is better than PS and Painter. The fluidity of the stroke is better. the paint builds up and mixes nicely (which PS doesn't do at all). Ease of use, I set my pen buttons to change brush size and pick color and I don't even have to touch my keyboard. It will run on a really old crappy computer (I did this (http://www.moranconcepts.com/images/ruth.jpg) on a laptop w/ 128 MB ram, Painter requires a Gig). The beta is free (http://www.purrhead.thj.no/proggies/oC11b68.exe) and the newest version (http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/index.asp) is only $70. It saves event files and [the beta] can network with up to 4 people at the same time. (you and three friends can paint together in real-time anywhere in the world). And as I'm writing this it made me happy in my pants. :x

Try them all out and use whatever you feel gives you the best response and feeling of what you're used to. Every software has its strengths and weaknesses. I use both photoshop and painter and I have no problems with either.
