Im a new member to ConceptArt.Org, well actually a new artist. I'm a starving artist who needs answers because I want to become a good artist and I know that the only way to get their is to just practice all the time. You see my problem is that I think I am too late in becoming a good artist because I know so many people that are good that started when they were just kids. I have always drew sketches but not as good as people that i have seen. I guess what I am trying to get at is to know if it is too late to become one of these concept artists. I am probably too far behind of the drawing game, just need to know where to start. So I want to ask all the artists out there is:
1) How old were you when you started to draw really good stuff?
2) Who was your inspiration if you had any or were you just gifted?
3) And how can I get there too? heh...
The only reason why I am interested is that my major is graphic design and I took some drawing classes and saw some ppl.'s work. These people are really good because they are either in animation or illustration and I just recently got introduced to concept art. First concept artist I have heard about was Justin Sweet. His stuff is so insane it made me want to get there, but then I heard he was jsut really good and that discouraged me. So all you artists out there, help me out?? I really want to make this into a career and have started some noob sketches. So I need guidance and tips in getting there. :[

Uh, lets see here....
Survey says: Wrong Forum. This is kinda the "sketches and works in progress" section.
BUT- having gotten that out of the way, there are tons of people who start drawing in their late teens or or early 20's and they don't exactly fly high at first, but the determination of someone truly eager to learn can surpass the laid-back "natural ability" of someone else.
most people on here won't tell you when they started drawing really good stuff, because in their mind they still need to improve- thats a lot of the magic of it. Constant determination.
thats my 2 cents anyway.

Sup McLean, the only reason why I put this topic in the skethed part was because at the time it was them ost viewed and I wanted answers NOW heh, but thx for responding
Sup Darrell, I am 22, and I never had an art class in high school but did draw a little, didn't spend a lot of time on it only when I was bored in class. I started art classes in my fifth year in college because the other four years I was majoring in computer science but the math was killing me so I decided to do what I wanted to which was web design, which turned into graphic design, but now I want to be an illustrator or animator or maybe do all of it, heh. I really want to be good and want to know some starting lessons I should work on right now. I want to work for big companies as well and to concept art for games, movies, stuff like that.

really, i think that the people here could better help you if we saw where you are in your artistic development (POST ART). Why wait for assigned art projects? Jump on the daily sketch groups here! You seriously have no excuse- and if you're really serious about all this, then I think you'll find this to be an excellent use of your time. I'm all for people realizing their dreams and whatnot- and I think you'll be a happier person the sooner you immerse yourself in the pursuit of yours.

You're right McLean I will start posting some art soon, its just that I really have no good art to put up right now. They are all doodles and kind of embarrased to show them. I am bringing my sketch book with me everywhere now and as I soon as I feel comfortable in my drawing I will post them I promise. I just need time to become comfortable with my drawings.

It is true that the first critique you should get is from yourself and as long as you know what to do to improve, that's cool, but as soon as you get to the point where you're trying to work it out and just can't bring it off, there are a lot of folks here who like to help.
Looking forward to seeing your art.
