i am having trouble with quick sketching of clothed figures, as well as from my imagination. i already have part of the answer and that is keep working at it but i am also curious to how other people layin clothed figures from life or imagination. doing the nude body doesn't confuse me like how clothing do.
i need to just keep trying out things and see what works best for me, but i have no idea what direction to head in right now. Thank you for any help and insight to this.

do studies of clothed figures from artists you like. then work from your imagination and try incorporating those elements.
also try picking up some clothing catologues, those help a bit as long as the pictures arnt horibly blown out

If you haven't already seen it, this (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14739) may be helpful.

Mayby try understanding how folding works. There's some books about it and some info around on the forum. Do some long studies first, and try to understand what i happening with the folds. Think of gravity, look at the direction the folds are going to, look at the position of the body etc.
