I got my hands on a copy of this a bit early and have been listening to it all weekend. This album is amazing and will not dissapoint, in fact it just might be the most complete album they have released in terms of how the songs flow together. All the songs are great.

After seeing them in concert a couple weeks ago, they are also my favorite band right now. I've never been to a crazier concert.... I was in the front when it started (with B.Y.O.B) and I thought I was going to die. I had to get the fuck out of the front:)

So I highly recommend to buy it when it comes out Tuesday.

heh, i was lucky enough to see them in concert at ozzfest many years ago, before they were popular. there were literally only about 20-30 people in the crowd. i was probably about 10 feet away from the band.

basically within seconds thousands of people are smashed together like sardines and pushed around uncontrollably in rolling sea of chaos that never subsides during the whole concert...... the energy is awesome. I don't know when the cd releases in europe but i think they are touring there soon.

Ditto. Seeing them on that tour made me a fan. Until I saw them live, I didn't really care for them.

And yeah, their new one is great.

i like their last two best, because there's more melody in most of them and they flow together better.though most songs on album nr.1 rule.they just feel too seperated to me.

got this album a few days ago and I'm already driving the gf nuts with it.... normally when I listen to a cd and I'm working I have the cd repeat over and over, because once I'm in a groove I don't wanna ruin it by changing the music.

Anyway... great album! My favs being BYOB, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song, Question, Old School Hollywood, Lost in Hollywood..... gah, ok, the whole album fucking rocks.

Yeah, Mezmerize is great. My favorite album of the year so far...it's even a little bit better than The Mars Volta's Frances the Mute. I love the flow in it...and the fact that there's not a wasted second. What surprises me is that this album seems to be pretty popular, even though this is some seriously weird shit.
Even someone at allmusic likes this album (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:trapqj6eojsa~T00)

what the hell...a double album? ohhh when is the second part out?!
From the official site (http://www.systemofadown.com/):
System of a Down has done it again. The band's fourth album, "Mezmerize" (American Recordings/Columbia Records), enters the Billboard/SoundScan chart in the Number One position, as did their CD "Toxicity" when it was released in September, 2001. Since the release of "Mezmerize" last Tuesday, May 17, the CD has scanned an astounding 453,000 copies domestically. "Mezmerize" is the first disc in a 2-disc set with disc two, "Hypnotize," expected out late this fall. "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" was produced by Rick Rubin and System's Daron Malakian.

well all a matter of personal taste.
i like most of the songs on their first album very much too, they just don't tie together as well as this one.
though i gotta admit i like "steal this album" still the best. because the songs all flow together nicely,i daresay almost better than this one,and you almost can't listen to any of the songs on their own-they're all one big, creamy unit of hardrock at it's best.

btw someone said he'd consider their music nu-metal.would you say so aswell?

Pontemonti
June 7th, 2005, 06:02 PM
I haven't heard much of their previous stuff, but what I've heard has been less interesting than this.
Nu-metal is a stupid name. Call it hard-rock instead, 'cause it's not metal. IMHO Mezmerize is progressive rock at it's best. Progressive because they're thinking out of the box and trying something "new".

Hell yah, Mesmarize is superrrrb. I got only one of their other cd's, and ill be getting the second part of this too. Old school hollywood is one of the best songs. Also, shame on a nigga with voo tang clan is awesome, and metro was one of my favorite song by them till this new cd.

Carnifex

just bumping this now that hypnotize is out!

system of a down is one of my all time favorite bands, and i love the direction they're taking with this double album. some of the most beautiful melodies i've heard combined with crushing riffs and dead kennedies style punk creates a yin and yang vibe that is powerful and moving.

i don't have a problem with serj getting less mic time either, as his and daron's voices complement each other so well. the 50/50 balance on these records is perfect. just hope they don't decrease his vocals any more than this.

go buy it (and all their others)!

Yes it seriously does kick ass. I love both of them but for some reason I like Hypnotise just a bit more. Gotta love it!
