I have a problem with sketching. I love to admire the loose fluid quality of other peoples sketches, but when sketching for myself I always overwork it. My results are too rigid and tight. It's like I'm stuck in some sort of auto pilot that keeps skipping the sketching phase and jumps straight into tight rendering. I want to achieve the qualities found in "The Art of Star Wars," sketchbooks. What's the best way to go about heading that direction?

Sincerely Frustrated. :upset:

Draw don't render/shade ~~~~ practically in the early stages of learning!

Draw and draw a lot <> try not to spend a lot of time rendering <> we start rendering when are brain shuts down and we are just going through the motions <> when you are not thinking you are not drawing.

Every artist has at least 10,000 drawings to get out of their system before they start to master their craft and they don't get there by wasting a lot of time rendering!
